Firefox question.

Looking through the firefox folder i was looking for the file which all the
list of files downloaded were kept. you know that "clean up button"

question. how do you clear that list with out deleting all the files? the downloads and stuff.

as i understand if you press that clean up button you will delete all the file you downloaded. i do not want to delete everything just clear that list cause it is large.

If I push that button, the files aren't deleted! Only the list is cleaned.

Echo Ideswa. The Cleanup button only cleans up the download manager, the files remain untouched.

Aye, that button only affects the list. If you want to delete the files, you have to go to your downloads directory and delete them.

edit: And if you ask again, three more people will be happy to tell you in the next 10 minutes. ;)

Why on earth would FireFox put in a button that deletes every file you have downloaded? That would make no sense at all. It would be too easy for someone to accidently click it and delete all their files, which wouldn't make FF a very popular browser by any means. Not to mention that fact that it would never, ever, in a million years, be used on purpose.

i am sure you can see how easy it is to assume what a button labled "clean up" realy does? with a description missing of what exactly it cleans up leave the user of the prog to assume what it does yes? so some people might want everything downloaded deleted for hard drive room and more storage space. While others may just want to clean the manager list and not delete all the downloaded files. i had friends that deleted free progs when they were finished or board with them like some people do with mp3s. some store the progs on another disk while make room for other stuff on their hard drives.

i thought that was what the password login was for?

as with many users there be many different wants for what a prog does. some buttons are obvious like sefldestruct and others are vage and leave the user to make a few assumptions as to what the button does before they try the button to find out what it does. then they find out. it is still a new browser with updates and a few bugs. like when you do download the name does not automaticaly set like it does in ie. sure you get a name but not the same.

was wondering why a prog would keep a list in the first place of all the files downloaded if not to delete all of them .... see easy assumption. meow!

...so that, if the download was somehow interrupted, you could resume it because Firefox saved the URL? ;)

i have had a few download interupted by a drop connection and the downloads did not restart when reconnected or call back. if you hit pause then it will restart with the same connection. so why keep a list when the download is done?

There is a way to make it automatically remove finished downloads. The feature is just defaultly turned off.
