Downloading DirectX 8.1

Do I need to download the whole thing??? Can't I just do the "Microsoft DirectX 8.1 Software Development Kit Componentized Download" and just download the "DirectX 8.1 C++ SDK"??? I won't be doing it in VB or something. Is there anything else besides the "DirectX 8.1 C++ SDK" that I'll need to download to start developing DirectX programs with C/C++??? Does this come with the documentation for learning???

nope. As long as u have a Windows compiler it should work. For DX programming I suggest VC++.

Yes. The DX 8 documentation is the best documentation I have seen MS produce, but it is still crap. Find a tutorial or a book to learn from.
