Spam and postcounts discussion
hey, kermi3, i would have to agree with what you are saying about the spam and postcounts, because the main purpose i use the board for is to test my knowledge of programming by helping other people with problems and questions, and also for posting questions and problems i'm having in order to get some quality advice.
Now when i look at a person that replies and they have a high posting count then they would normally (without giving it much though) seem to be the most advanced programmers on here, with the most knowledge for solving problems (at least hopefully) but since they can have the posts to the general board and all the spam-type of postings count to raise their title, then in reality they aren't always the most knowledgable and half the time they could be less knowledgable than the person that needs help, so using the information someone supplies in a reply half the time proves a waste of time.
Not to mention, i would like a flashy title in this thing, but not all of us have the time to post 50 googleplexes of spam posts just to get a new flashy title, so i feel deprived (LOL) anyway, yeah just wanted to start a discussion post (since no one else did) and let you know i definately hear your point and feel the same way.
-catch ya later (and if anyone else cares to reply, at least this to me is a somewhat important or valid point to address on the board- so feel free to reply)
-later ---- zeeee fish
no quite the point i was trying to make...
well, to be honest i guess i should have worded my original message differently, i guess the point i was really trying to make is that i just don't see that the general discussions board should raise your post count (that or only raise it for like every 10 posts to the GD board then)
I just feel that for someone who hasn't been on the boards too long, and just wants a small chunk of help, might find it distracting or unrealiable to go for help, get a person with a high post count helping, but possibly not get some actual good help if say that person doesn't really code items too much, and just sits talking on the eboard about trivial things. (which isn't bad, not in the least, but it does seem kinda wrong to lead people on by having a flashy title because of pointless posts)
I think maybe it would be better if there was some way to just limit the post count being raised on posts that are made in all other boards besides the GD board, that way there is the whole interpersonal communication thing to get to know buddies in there and chat, but not have it reflect trivial things as far as titles go or post counts. That way, if someone is in need of quick help, they could be able to better trust that implementing something that was suggested by a senior member, actually truely will work if they play with the idea long enough.
I myself just would be kinda mad if i trusted that a suggestion would probably work (if it were provided by a senior member) and that i would play with the idea, dabbling trying to work out just a little bug, when in actuality the idea may not work ever, and i may be wasting valuable time, when a better idea that WILL work may be available from someone who is knowledgable, but just doesn't ahve that higher post count.
i know--- kinda long reply here, but i hope i got what i was trying to say right this time. i didn't wanna sound like a party-pooper with saying that we shouldn't discuss petty things, cause i'm all about just babbling about worthless shtuff.
