how to install a NIC ?

Hello .
I have a NIC (compex RL2000-PCI)
but I dont know on which part of my mother board it should be installed ?
there is 6 spaces on my mother board .
the first is my graphic card , 2 free spaces then modem and at the end 2 othere free spaces again .
are they diffrent , which of them is for NIC ?
and after I insert the NIC to it's palce , what I should do ?(just running the driver or there are some other things to do ?)

Any of the spare PCI slots is fine, although I'd probably put it in the end slot so the graphics card and modem have plenty of room.

If it's Windows, just chuck it in and start up the computer. You may have to change some settings in the unlikely event that your network does not use DHCP.

well as far as i remember with linux it's pretty much the same, it simply finds new hardware once the system is up.
