language pack
I'm learning Chinese (mandarin), but some of the recources I'm using say I need to install a language pack to see the characters. If I say yes it does some junk and then asks for the win XP CD.
I heard somewhere that I shouldn't install any language packs, so I'm wondering, how do I get my computer so that I can read all the Chinese characters? Now when I go to Chinese web sites the language pack prompt doesn't show up anymore because I said no.

I don't know. Try a different OS, like linux.

I don't think there is any other way to display Chinese characters, unless you have the language pack installed.
Maybe im wrong, but how would installing a language pack hurt.

you shouldn't install language packs you aren't going to use... what's the point of having a chinese language pack on your system if you can't read the characters anyway? (Besides to make things look nice)
just install the pack... they should be on your installation disk. go through the steps, throw the disk in, let it install the language pack, and you'll be all set.
