1/4 final in the Chess Tournament in school

I am nervous. Could someone tell me where I can find useful chess tactics. :)

i once saw a really good chess strategy in a book...
i cant remember it now...but it was really good.

here is my tip:

always move your pawn in front of the queen first.

well if you're in the quarters, you must be pretty decent in your league... so just do what you've always done...

oh, or... you could wear some sunshades with a display on it and a computer chip... with DeepBlue... :)

oh, and the reason to do so is because they have the three move trick you want to prevent, but that's not an issue... if you move your king's pawn it opens up your bishop and queen... however you are vulnerable to run around in circles if you just out your queen like that. if in your opening you play a conservative route, pushing your pawns as much as you are getting your attacking pieces into play, you'll set yourself for a strong game... if you decide to get your knights into play early, you can have a strong defense, but it prevents mobility of your other pieces a bit...

My most powerful opening now is either the dbl knight defense or the 4 moves castle - very strong.

both sound appealing... but again, unless the situation calls for it, you don't necessarily need to opt for such a quick castle, especially if you opened your queen... try to fold off your opponent's opening, and if you wind up with one of those at least you know it's strong... if you utilize your pawns correctly you can really frustrate your opponent... however this is likely at the expense of your real offense, which would be getting your other pieces out into the center... i recommend, also, that you don't bother about making your rooks mobile early on in the game, it wastes moves because of board congestion on your side, and you'd be better off with them later in the game... as well as, of course, your queen...

Good chess tip: If you are way behind, or the opponent is about to announce mate, then you can force a stalemate by picking up the chess board and throwing it across the room; that is, unless the pieces are held on by velcro.

hehe... velcro chess... y'know if we played it upside down, and sideways, it'd be super freaky... think about it, velcro suspended and 90 degree turned board... wow... :)

Get yourself a program like Chessmaster and learn from that.
There are also millions of chess sites on the Interenet that are
there for the very purpose of helping people make their chess
experience more enjoyable.

Three main things to think about every chess game:

1. Control the center - the center 4 squares are crucial. If you take a look at any good opening, the opening is designed to control the center, if you can control the center, you have more space (which is good), and better position.

2. Tempo - in the opening, you want to get as many peices out as you can, moving a pawn 3 times will result in you losing time/tempo. In general, you bring out pawns, then knights, then bishops.

3. Castle - This is very important as well, keeping your king safe is obviously a big deal in chess :)

Those are my suggestions to keep in mind. Don't freak yourself out at a chess tournament because believe me I've done it hehe. There's no set thing that says 'do exactly this this this and this and you'll win' that's the glory of chess, you have to play the man, play the board, and don't think too hard ;)
