Alright, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be posted here or what but I can't think of any better place. Alright, here's the deal. I went out and bought Visual C++ 5.0 a while back. The CD, I believe, has a scratch on it that's preventing the reading of certain files on the CD (user32.lib is the only one I can think of ay the moment) and I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinkin maybe if I download user32.lib and try to copy the rest of the CD to my comp, then it'll work but I'm not sure. Can anyone suggest anything? I'd like to keep using what I've been using for a while and what I'm used to. If you need proof, I can take a picture of the CD if needed. Can anyone help me out?


BTW: I couldn't find any place to download the user32.lib file.

Try burning a copy of the CD. not all CDs are created equal, and the fine lasers on a CD-RW might be able to successfully read the CD.

I tried making a copy but it didn't work either. I thought it may work if I did that too but it didn't seem to work. Anyone else have any suggestions?

brass polish which is a mild abrasive rubbed gently into a scratched cd in a circular motion for a couple of mins and then buffed can normally resurrect a scratched cd.

disclaimer....

if it ruins the cd.... its not my fault.... but hell it is worth a shot.

Where can I buy this brass polish? It sounds like a great item but I never seen it anywhere. Thanks.

They have CD polishers/cleaners at some computer stores. Additionally, you may want to try lowering the CD settings on your computer. Try going to Microsoft Support, and entering "troubleshooting" and "CD" and "DMA" and "cache", you should get a knowledge base article on how to lower cache size, read ahead, and disable DMA on your CD rom drive.
