I can do this in either Microsoft Word or in Word Perfect, but does anybody know how I can put a unique header and/or footer on each page of a document? Unless you use one of the predefined macros like page number, if you write something in the header or footer of one page, it is rendered on each other page.
Any ideas?
If I understand you correctly, you can do this in microsoft word. You have to put a section break where you want to start the section that contains a new header/footer. The help section that deals with this is called "Create a different header or footer for part of a document" in Word 2000.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was troubled with the same problem a few semesters back and discovered that any header/footer you use will be included on every page in the current section. So, just as sean345 said, insert a section break just before the first page with a different header/footer.

One other Word question: Any way to get vertical borders to appear between columns? You can get horizontal dividers in the borders window, but I can't find anything about vertical dividers in Help.
