I'm looking into getting starting with game programming but first i have a few questions.
1. What past languages should i know? (i.e. c++)
2. What is the easiest way to learn? (i.e. books, tutorials)
3. What modeling program is the easiest to learn? (i.e. 3ds max)
4. What new languages will i have to learn?
5. What else should i know?

2. Depends on the person. Online tutorials are good and informative but to really get into a language books are the way to go.
3. 3D studio is nice, and expensive. There are some free / cheaper modelers out there. Google it.

To everybody besides lastresort:
I think that he's going to have a while before he's able to make 3D games. If you look at his other posts he's really not very experienced in C++. That does not mean we should crush his hopes and dreams ( :D although that would be fun (just kidding!)).
To lastresort:
Take their advice, and mine, which is that game programming is very hard and difficult to learn. If you want to make games start out with 2D ones and keep working, but remember even 2D games are difficult.

yeah i know im new to c++ but im looking for after im experienced (which i hope to be after this summer) to be able to program some 3d games similar to

i notice that the source contain c++ extentions as well as .h, .dsp, and .dsw which i have no idea what they are.
.dsp and .dsw are MS Visual Studio project and workspace files

I think it will be summer of 2010. No offense, but I don't think more than a couple dozen people on these boards will ever go on to make a 3D game. That was the only 3D game ever posted on these boards. If you think about how many people have accounts on these forums (currently 12,593) that's a very small group of people.Quote:

im going to college for it so... yeah. i just would like to get a head start a couple years before i leave, might help me with the 4.0 im looking for =)
Go have a look at SDL and dont give up, i'd recomend you set yourself a goal to make a pong game.. you'll learn alot from the experience if you just stick in at it until its finished.
You could do what I did, and write small C/OpenGL screensavers. You will learn a lot of advanced graphical stuff relatively quickly.
Let's face it, graphics is where the interesting stuff is. :p
I started writing C at the beginning of the summer holidays last year (June 2004), and by September I'd been asked to write an article for PCformat. :D
Screensavers are cool, I find, because I get bored on long projects. Screensavers are just long enough to hold my attention.
I was going to attach a recent project, but on discovering that I can't upload ZIPs, I put it on my own server instead.
Screensaver executable here. :)
3d games do take a while but some times you find you never
find time to finish them and end up looking for people who know c++ like the folks at http://www.streetrod3.com
witch btw is a cool game :D
Sorry to bump threads but I wonder if the guys that coded that realize that......hmm........now we can actually texture polygons?
