I won a scolarship!!!
Yeah, that's right!!
I am going to study at Los Andes University, and there is a scolarship given only to two people in the whole university: A fresman(that's me) and to another non-freshman who has already completed 80 credits.
I applied to the scolarship and they graded me 740 out of 800, the next guy got 560!!!
I am so happy, the scolarship pays half the tuition costs for next semester! (that's a big economical relief, about two million and a half pesos!!!)

Wow!!! Great job!!! Are you one of the top students in your school or something?? Woow... You must be smart...
-
They asked for your ICFES score (A national test every student must take, by the way, my ICFES score was rather high) and the school's grades, but I also sent my resumé, I think it helped a lot.

Congrats!!!!!! That is wonderful. I am sure you will do very well. Good luck.
-
Well done Os......thats great news..
-
well done osk.
Nice to hear you're doing so well.
-
Good Job.
Do you have any idea what you are going to follow?(wich courses you are going to take)
-
ENHORABUENA !!!!!!!!1
Hey Osk, I'm really happy for you.
So when are you starting? and BTW, what are you starting?
It's great you don't have to move on to another city, isn't it?
I've had a look at this university (the one you've mentioned) and it looks good. I've seen they have some research activities, will you join any?

Thanks, Gades!
and Thank you all for supporting me!
I am going to study at Los Andes University: http://www.uniandes.edu.co right here in Bogotá, but the university is downdown (13th street) and I live north (126th street).
I am going to study "Ingeniería de Sistemas y Computación", which translates to "Systems and Computing Engineering).
The system in here is quite different from the USA, here we study by semesters and take different courses each semester (not years, like in the USA).
First semester is quite boring, but this is the best university for studying this major in the whole country (that's what makes it the most expensive, and that's why I'm so happy to have won that scolarshup)
This semester I'm taking:
Physics I
Experimental Physics 1
Introduction to systems engineering
Systemical Thought
Calculus 110 (an honors course designed specially for students who are studying math, but I chose it because I find it interesting)
in spanish (the original names):
Física 1
Física Experimental 1
Introducción a la ingeniería de sistemas
Pensamiento sistémico
Cálculo 110 Honorífico
I start classes on January 15th (I'm so excited!), and I already have my schedule (I arranged it online), and it's rather good!
I also had to take english, but I'm not, because they gave me an exam to check how good my english is, and now when they released the results, I found that my english is so good I don't have to take any english courses at all! (well, the final decition is given to me on the third week of classes)

Congratulations!!!:D :D :D
You must be very smart! What's your IQ.
Btw:
Are you already a member of Mensa?
-
Hey Osk, I can help you with Calculus and Pysics probably.
I've done quite a few years of that at uni ;)
Maybe with the money you're making now you could get a proper connection with your new "baby"
-
IcyDeath: I don't know what my IQ is, I once did the test, but I don't remember how much I got, but that was about 10 years ago!!!, I'm sure it must be very different now!, but what I know for sure is that back then it was about 140-150 (I don't remember whether it's good or bad) , but I'll get you the precise value tommorrow.
Gades: well, I'm making about $240,000 , I already have saved $100,000 , and I'm sure I'll get money for my graduation-birthday party (AAARRGGH), about $150,000 . That sums about $500,000. That's about U$200. (son't worry, in Colombia, things are a lot cheaper than in the US, in Colombia, with U$200, you can do what you can do in the US with about $800 ...
Even so, I don't think I can get a worthy connection with half a million pesos for more than 4 months! I think I'll buy the additional things for the PC (it only comes with the case, board, processor, memory and sound card), so I'll need to buy a floppy disk drive, a DVD drive (or CD, or CD-R, or maybe even a DVD-RAM), maybe a monitor and a headset (I'll have my computer in my room which is right beside my parents'), as for mouse and keyboard, I have a good mouse (Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical), and a good keyboard (Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro). But most important of all, I must buy a gift (don't ask about this one)
If I ever need help in physics or calculus (If I'm in deep trouble), I'll go to you, thanks!

Cool, I got a 10k scholarship for coding up a computer game :-)
http://www.davidsoninstitute.org
unfortunately this only pays 1/5 of my tuition at DigiPen, but hey, I'll take what I can get :-)

that's good, sounds excellent, well done, hope the next semester I could study at there, it's expensive, but think it worths the price, each day that passes I regret my choice, compare Oskilian's university webpage with this: http://www.unal.edu.co/ , really, it is not difficult to decide between them.
Camilo
sad for me, but happy for Oskilian

Ouch! I have two scholarships which don't even total that, but I get most of my tuition paid by them. Next year I get to be a TA, so 1/2 tuition is free, plus 10K salary, plus medical/dental insurance.
