Game problems (video)
P4 2.6 with 1gig Ram, Asus P4B800 with MSI 5900XT video.
I just did a complete hard drive format, installed XP SP1pro
and also installed latest video drivers and DX9b.
after installing games like FarCry, playing for a few hours,
everything runs good. if i turn off computer, or re-boot,
the games do not run anymore. they just start, and after the
initial splash screen, it exits to windows. in other case
i get exception errors. what the heck is this ! its driving me
nuts. other than games, the computer is running like a dream.
smooth as silk.
any help will be greatly appreciated. it gets tiring to install
5cd games every day :)
thnx in advance !
John.

This is just throwing something into the wind, so bare with me.
I had this happen to me with Tomb Raider. Is the game in question for the Win32 platform? Or just 16? Anyways, look for stuff the game's company installed into your registry..and remove anything that has to do with video modes or sound hardware.
I'd play some of the earlier Tomb Raiders, and after a while(like a couple of days), they'd go funky on me. So, under the Core Design folders in the registry, I'd remove the appropriate settings. I'd restart the game, and it would repopulate the settings in the registry with default values.

Don't turn the computer off? ;)
Honestly, I don't know. I hate to say it, but it sounds like a system problem... maybe do a repair of XP?

hmm FarCry.... Are you sure you are using a legal version of the game... The pirated version circulating aroound the net for this game has this peculiar problem..
