Conclusion: Religion is evil...
:)
heard about this on the radio.
un-freaking-believeable.
I heard about this somewhere else... anybody have any legit backing to this?
its a reliable news source, and i heard about it on Q102, but still....how can you NOT know??
You have GOT to be kidding me.
Another reason why religion has simply gone too far. Religion = evil.
erm, of course, the assignment of evil to Religion returns true, butQuote:
Religion = evil.
returns false.Code:
Religion == evil
I heard about this yesterday, and all I could think about is, " you are telling me that these people would know to go to a doctor about not being able to have a kid but never bought any books related to pregnancy which would clearly mention sex?"
>> anybody have any legit backing to this? <<
It appears the original source is the ananova story and the rest of the media has picked it up. Although the Daily Mirror seems to have some more dubious details.
The daily mirror claims the ages as 32 and 36 while ananova claims 30 and 36.
The daily mirror calls it the University of Luebeck while ananova calls it the University Clinic of Lubek.
It does seem to exist but no mention of the story on the press release page.
I'm skeptical that anyone could live in a Western society and not know the basic details. I'd give the story a less than 50/50 chance of being roughly accurate. Have to wait till snopes picks it up.
Good for a laugh though - 10/10.
Its a good thing clinics are talking about these things EARLY and OPENLY in life with their patients.
Wow... You'd think they'd have figured it out... Just maybe...
lol, the daily mirror, that kinda says it all to me, that paper only prints crap.
as to whether its true, lol who knows..
there was a part in catch 22 where this young couple when to see doc daneeka because they weren't having kids, and the female had a holy mary on a rosary or some necklace hanging down near her boobies, and doc daneeka pointed that out, and then the d00d came back later and punched doc daneeka in the face because he realized doc daneeka was looking at her boobies when he pointed out the holy mary.
EDIT:
*tears come to eyes, bites fist, represses the urge to say it*Quote:
We are not talking retarded people here, but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment
Brought up in a religious environment? That's worse than retarded.
Just had to say what everyone was thinking.
I don't see anything wrong with religion. The basic fundamentals of it are good. Such as the beliefs and ethics of being good, but some people take it too far.
I feel if religion is asserted on some people, in a certin manner, then no matter how good the ethics/morals of that "institution", the end result may be skewed.Quote:

Isn't it wonderful? That their relationship has survived so long even without sex? :)
no... catholics don't believe in condoms because they don't work and they're getting in the way of god's work, remember?Quote:

I'm sure theres a fair amount of truth to it, but when does brainwashing override instinct and go to far,,,,,,think this shows the line being blown to hell.
If god didn't want his people being complete morons he would have given them brains, works much like the khmer rouge if you ask me.
the woman probably thought that she was being stabbed between the legs by a little demon every month too. people that stupid shouldn't be allwoed to proceate anyway.
I never did like the word stupid, I prefer ignorant. ; )Quote:

But in fact stupid is more correct. Stupid is a level of intelligence, just as is moron and genius.Quote:

Religion in of itself is not good nor evil. People's actions based off of the religion is good or evil.Quote:

Good to know, but, ignorance seems to be a better word, it connotes as to unaware, which makes more sence, when stupidity is just to general for me.Quote:

Stupid is only a derogatory word for the appearance of lack of intelligence.Quote:

I think you are incorrect. The Church considers unnatural birth control, such as condoms, a mortal sin but natural birth prevention such as the rhythm method not a sin.Quote:

I am catholic and have close connections to the catholic heirarchry and doctorain, I assure you that in the last 25 years the Roman Catholic church has relaxed its position on masterbastion and birth control. As I said it does not encourage the use of condoms and such but at the same time it is no longer considered to be a grevious sin (There are only 7 mortal sins). The main reason it does not support condoms and such is the fear that it will cause an increase in premarital sex.

I must have missed that memo. Premarital sex is a sin, and by that they are discouraged, but they are not a sin. They may lead to a sin, but that doesnt make them an actual recognized sin imo.
I'm not really all that close to the Catholic heirachy, but I will try to putforth what I believe to be correct. According to the catechism, masturbation and birth control such as condoms are mortal sins. My experience, however, has been that some priests, very good priests, don't know this or are unwilling to shove it down people's throats. In any case, the possibility of mortal sin is up to the individual to search their hearts to determine whether they have committed a mortal sin, though this is seen by some to be problematic in the case of cloudyness resulting from the sin. There are certain circumstances that would mitigate both of these sins and these are mentioned in the catechism. If liberaly intepreted, you could have the same situation that you've mentioned; I do not feel such an interpretation is correct, even though it implicates the actions I've committed.Quote:

7 deadly sins, not 7 mortal sins :)Quote:

Although the introduction of modern birth control seem to increase premarital sex, the Catholic church considers birth control a sin because it divorces the true purpose of sex from the marriage.
Now I think you are somewhat correct in believing the Church has changed her views. We don't have to believe pleasure involved in sex is wrong insofar as it is in accord with God's will. And I think this is the departure from Thomas Aquina's view of sex. We don't, have to believe the production of children offsets something bad involved in sex or anything like that.
And so natural birth control is not wrong. Though the intention of natural and unnatural birth control are practically the same, there is a slight difference in that natural birth control is not forcibly "stopping" God from using the act to procreate any more than God would force a couple to procreate. The stoping of God is up to interpretation. I have no clue what it means for an all-possible God to be stopped, but I think it has to do with blocking God by making an action go against his nature.
nice one anonytmous ;)
hows that link relevant?? It says undetermined. They dont know if its fake or not they're assuming.
Moving on.
It is not officially considered a sin. Its not encouraged, but there is NO written documentation accepted by the entire religous community to verify what you are saying. If you found some, please, enlighten us!Quote:
