Defrag Error
I'm having this very odd error in defragmenting my hard drive.. The error is "Windows could not defragment some files on this drive, to see the files click view report." I was at 46% fragmentation..and now i'm at 43%..why can't it defrag all of those files? I'm on XP home sp1a btw.

try and do a scandisk first and then defrag
-
also boot into safe mode to make sure programs aren't using the files in question
-
the best way i've found to defrag is to boot off another drive with the drive in question as a slave, run scandisk and defrag it... usually it gets most (if not all) of the system files in one place and works better overall from my own experience
-
yeah that would probably be the only way to get the best results possible.

This utility has an option to defrag at next boot in much the same way that windows will run scandisk during startup.
