Final Fantasy I
I just recently found a project that I did about a month ago. The project was a remake of Final Fantasy I, and I basically was just doing it to see if i could :) Everything about it is almost exactly the same as the original. I made a program that could take in an image file and chop it up in to a tileset and a .map file which indexed each "unique" tile automatically. also, the tilemap generated has each tile as a completely unique tile. (You'd be amazed how few tiles they made the world map in, lol) You can check out the tilemaps to see the actual output of my map generator program which if i might say, works dang good :)
but anyways, this project basically allows you to start up a new game, walk around on the world map, go in to the first town, talk to people, and search the ground for items. Also, the menu system is completely functional and you can press select to change the order of your people. EVERYTHING in this game that you see was made from scratch by me, and i had nothing to go off of other than what the original game looked like :) I used an emulator to grab the screenshots and put together the giant tilemaps that were used in the final engine. So yah, i'm quite happy with this, and I could actually make a whole game just with the engine that i've made so far if i wanted to :)
So download it and tell me what you think.. If you'd like to work on this project, I might be willing to go opensource with it, all of the code is in a very flexible "module" format that is very easy to work with and offers a LOT of power.

Cool! One question, how come all the g's in the game look funny?
-
'g's as in graphix? or the letter g?
-
-
hmm, what do you mean about the g though? the whole font set is from the original game, i took screenshots of it from my emulator to make sure they were authentically the same font set

-note-
if you'll notice, i put myself in to the game :) I'm the robot in the first town. You can plainly see why i probably shouldn't do art....lol. If you talk to me, i'll identify myself in the game :) I mainly did that to show how easy it is to add a new NPC to the game and have it automatically walk around with the NPC AI

The 'g' doesn't look like the 'g' here...It looks like a weird symbol...I don't know what else to say

Hey Jawib, I just noticed your sig, with the Milton poem.... pretty cool d00der....the reason I noticed it is because I'm writing an essay right now partly about his poem "When I consider how my light is spent", where he enters a dialogue with God. It is an essay about four poets, Shakespeare, Donnne, Herbert, and Milton, and their "discussions" with God.
I know this makes no freagin sense, but I'm tired....so there

Heh...I actually saw the excerpt from Paradise Regained when I was reading about mad cow disease on some website...I liked it so there it is. Anyways good luck on that essay. I'm actually writing one on "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane for my American Literature class. It really sucks...

these are the two g's in the game...i don't think they look that odd :)
