delphi
Who here knows Delphi and uses it? If you do use it, why?
I'm just curious because my first venture into the programming world was with Delphi, a seriously bad text book and a not-so-useful teacher. This put me off Delphi completely even though I had learned relatively little. Two years later and I am now working through C++ on my lonesome.

well, I don't know delphi, I learned pascal a while ago, and delphi is based on pascal, but I've never done anything useful with it.
what's bad about delphi in my opinion is that it's up to one company (borland) to to do whatever they like, what if they stopped the whole delphi thing? or replaced the current API with a completely new one?

Delphi is a great tool. I use it often. If I need a quick front end for a database, then Delphi is my tool of choice.

Delphi's language is Object Pascal - it is not within Borlands remit to change that. If you mean VCL, the class library, yes, they could, but then Microsoft could do the same with MFC - you use a class library, that is the risk you take - you have to consider how likely it would be bearing in mind the companies concerned want to retain their customers.

well i don't know if they plan on changing that, but the actual win32 api will be TOTALLY different for longhorn and blackcomb
