Media Player
Does anyone know how to uninstall media player 9, and install the one that comes with xp? I have xp pro, and took media player off by unchecking the windows compontents thing for it. That didn't work. I did that and deleted some registry info, and setup files that I found for it, that didn't work either. Please help me out because I hate media player 9, and it crashes all the time for me. I really want the other one back.

It's a windows component. Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components in the control panel should work.
-
it doesn't...when you do that, it unistalls wmp 9.0, then when you check it, it installs 9.0 again. It seems to write itself somewhere or something.

You can get hold of the old-style Windows Media Player by running "rundll32 msdxm.ocx,RunDll". That's what I use, it's no-frills though.

I just want the one that comes with xp...not 9 and not that older one

Thanks for bumping your thread. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Keep up the good work.
Isn't WMP9 the one that comes with XP? I'm using XP; I have 9.
-
well, i guess which one XP comes with depends on when you bought it, i think mp8 would be the likely one.
and from what i've read on MS's site you can't uninstall mp9 unless you use a system restore point before you installed it...
so if you dont have one, then a reinstall is pretty much the only option.
but i don't think 8 should do any better than 9 as far as crashes, do you have any clue whats causing the crashes?
-
well I got 2 security updates from their site and it messed up after that. Those updates also make all my other dvd programs crash when I finish using them. I am not really sure why.

Doesn't anyone know how to fix this?
-
apparently not.
Have you tried uninstalling the two patches you installed?? That would be the logical solution. (Add/Remove Programs, and then you'll have to figure out which Hot Fix you installed)
-
yes, I tried that, and it was still messed up
-
sounds like you're $$$$ed then. *shrugs*
Time to reinstall.
I guess you have also tried to download the latest WMP9?
-
That is the one I already have, and the one I am having trouble with.

I'm suggesting that there might be a later version, and a re-install would overwrite your corrupted files. !?
