You know that old quote that said "There may someday be a global need for 5 or 6 computers"? The guy was talking about China.
there is no chinese alphabet... each character is a word... I don't think all of them are on a keyboard tho... we don't use every word in the english dictionary, do we? and in chinese, the words change depending on syntax...Quote:

The symbols are composed of several different strokes. So the keyboard could have that.
I bet they just type in English though.
here's what i found: http://www.datacal.com/dce/catalog/c...ofo-layout.htm
although now that i think about it, most chinese is probably written in pin-ying... the ASCII equivalent to chinese words... phrases like "ni hao, ma?", "bu hao", "nin ren", etc... but then again all the printed newspapers i've seen have been in the traditional characters...
btw, nice sig confuted ;)
Actually, confuted is right. If I recall currectly, They have all the different strokes that you need to make up the symbols, so they can "mix and match" them
I just gave you the link to the keyboard layout ;)
I've been waiting for a thread like this to pop up. I've been wondering about typed japanese characters for a while though not enough to actually go out and find out.
With four different versions of the language;kangi, hirogana, katagana and rumaji(ascii)(apology for spelling if tragically incorrect)... it'd be a little hard developing a keyboard and I don't suppose there's much patience for just using character map like ickle old me. :)
Key combinations on a qwerty keyboard?
the traditional character set is understood by all chinese languages...
yeah my co worker showed me that, he had it for msn and hed press a key and a bunch of symbols would pop up and hed choose one. pretty cool

exactly. I type "ga" and the char for 'ga' comes up.
There are keybords for Kanji which are much like the chinese keyboards (since Kanji are actually chinese characters)
BTW: your spelling wasnt too bad but: Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, and Roomanji
i just realized that this turned from chinese characters to japanese characters... :(
Ah well, my japanese is limited and it's been a while. :pQuote:

Comes up... from/in...?Quote:

Is Kanji then not so widely used as it requires a specific keyboard layout? Or is it fairly normal to have both. Curious.
Sorry! My bad. :)Quote:

That's over a year since you've posted on the boards here - welcome back Pendragon.
Thanks adrian. :)
