VCD splitting?
So, here we are again.
Say I have a top quality AVI file that I want to burn to watch in VCD format................or better SVCD.
Ok, now Nero wants to convert it from 650MB to 1500MB (roughly).
Obviously I need a program to split this to 2/3 discs...I cant afford a DVD burner :(
I have searched and searched, downloaded lots of stuff that will try to split MPEGS.......No joy as they dont entertain AVI.
I heard about one called AVI2VCD, but cant be sure if I have the right one (or how the hell it works, if indeed it is the correct one).
I even searched our fav site www.cprogramming.com to no avail.
How? Please tell me if you have experience of this. A few ppl told me Nero did this, so I got latest version tonight-already had v5. Still cant suss how to do this. Any help will be rewarded with Stella (or if you prefer watery USA beer).

Have you been through this site?.
Are you wanting to split the AVI or the MPEG?
Are you encoding from avi to mpeg? If so, why not do it in 3 chunks?
[edit]
There's a section on splitting in this FAQ

Thats a very informative site.:)
There is a lot to this subject.

I use a program called "Easy Video Splitter". I use it to split cartoons in mpeg format that I record off of television, then convert to DIVX, and then to VCD with Nero Express. I think you can also split AVI files with it. Im not sure of the site address, but if you type in "Easy Video Splitter" in the Google search you should find it okay. It is shareware, and only allows you to use it for seven days, but it should do the trick. Another program I use is called "Virtual Dub". You can definitely split pretty much all kinds of video with that, but it's a little harder to use. I use that program to compress my mpg's to a reasonable size for VCD's. Hope this helps. Let me know, and good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I D/L it and it seems TOO easy. As we speak I have Nero burning!
Wow, you just say how big and boom. Nero said 'unexpected format' when I asked it for a SVCD, but normal VCD seems to work. Thanks again.
Now, lets see if we cant stop it being shareware. :)
