So who here participated in the mad rush for the 5th Harry Potter book?
Harry Potter... pffft Pot my harry 4ss.
Sounds so low tech.
The only time ive ever read in a harry Potter book was when i was babysitting some young kiddos.
I've not read any of the books, but did take my niece to see the first film, which I quite enjoyed.
I haven't read any of them but my friend has. He says that they are great. And I guess 200 million sold copies translated into 55 different languages doesn't lie. We even had a heist the other day where a thousand or so copies of the new one were stolen from a delivery lorry. Those books are hot property.
i voted for the last one ^_^
I actually really liked the Harry Pothead books, and I look like Harry Potter and when people say I look like Harry Potter I say 'Poof, you're a pile of $$$$!'
This poll doesn't apply to me cuz i like the harry pothead books but I didn't rush out to get it.
I'm so never getting laid.
> and I look like Harry Potter
Our prime minister, mr. Balkenende, also looks a lot like Harry Potter, at least they have the same hair dress. There are a lot of fun pictures with mr. Balkenende as Harry Potter. Here's one of them.
Harry who? :D
I dont konw anything about Harry Potter...
The books are pretty good, and the movies are made fairly well, but geared a bit toward young kids...or at least those who are young in the mind
I've read the first three, I have the fourth but I quit on like the tenth chapter and never picked it up since. The onely reason I have it was because my mom saw it on the shelves a coulple weeks after it was released.
As for the movies they were prety good, but I've seen better.
I really hate the movie, so I won't even think of buying the book!
The book is normally better then the moovie, unless you absolutely hate reading.

hairy potter is the most ________ ____ i've ever seen!!!! 40 $ for a children;s book???? what the ____ is that??? like i said before...i won;t read that book even if u paid me, but i changed my mind to i wouldn;t read that book even if my life depended on it....YES, i hate that ___ that much......40$..
its 40$? damn. i havent read any of them. dont really get much time to read (well, i have plenty of time, just lazy as $$$$)
I'm assuming he meant Canadian. That's like $25 in real money. That's no more than a normal hardcover. Pay no attention to Commander. He's been a pain in the ass for years now.Quote:

I've read most of the first book and seen the second movie. I really enjoyed both, but will probably read the rest of them from the library, if I do at all.
hmm... a 730 page children's book? i think not...Quote:

i read the books, and I think they're okay... and the movie wasn't bad... but i didn't participate in the rush... I got out of the movies and saw hundreds of people there and just laughed at them and kept walking... I'll get it eventually... it makes for a good summer read...
I dont know about Canada, but here in the US it is definitely not $40. I got it for $17.66 (including tax).Quote:

22$ canadian for the smoldering crap book at costco
It is an evil movie, and I cannot believe that there are people so obsessed with it. Like, come on guys, Star Trek kicks Harry's ass.
It's not as good as Goblet of Fire IMO.
harry suckz
(I don't like the books and the movie, and I would never pay any money for this f$*king book)
the books are probably some of the best books written in the genre the last decade. They are not filled with the usual rubbish that
todays childrens books are.
Haven't read no5 yet but it's here beside me waiting.
I voted for the first although that was a bold lie, I'd
never rush for anything but I thought that was the option
best describing my opinion :D
keep it up harry!
edit :: werd!! just realized I was the first on number 1, I rock my socks! ::

you read the latest one?Quote:

I have not read the books but have seen the movies. I liked the movies. Kinda allows you to think of what there could be out there ... I dont think they are geared twards "young minds" but those who can allow reality and logic to disipate for awhile.
Also its getting kids behind books and out from behind the TV (and puters :( ). Ive seen too many kids now-a-days that cant even think on there own.. let alone read a book! That is where I think the best part of the Potter series is.. getting kids reading.
The author herself was quoted as saying it was written for young minds. She also mentioned her works do not come within a mile of the fantastic works of tolkien.Quote:

So stop with all these excuses it is a kids book! Now go read something worth while like the lord of the rings or if you really like kids books the chronicles of narnia...
Jesus, just shut up. So what if it's a book geared towards "young minds"? They're entertaining damn books. That's the important part. If you don't like them, then don't read them. It's not that freaking difficult. If someone else enjoys them, let them enjoy them. I don't go around saying LOTR is nothing more than Tolkien's version of intellectual masturbation.
What did you expect her to say? Everybody keeps comparing her to Tolkien, would you have her say "Of course I'm as good as the author many consider to be the best of all time in the fantasy genre!" Jeez your standards are high if you only like/read/watch things that are as good as the best in history. Lighten up!Quote:

IMO, only the first book felt like it was only geared towards young minds. The next ones, and especially Goblet of Fire could just as well pass for an adult book, although ones which kids would enjoy immensely as well. The movies weren't very good, absolutely nothing like the books at all, especially that god awful first one. Me personally I love the books, favorites being the second and fourth ones so far.
Right now I am on chapter 12 of the new one, and so far its a little slow which has surprised me a bit...
Yea.Quote:

Dutch seems very similar to German. Let me try and translate (I've never spoken a word of Dutch in my life):Quote:

"Waar hebben ze die nou weer vandaan getoverd?" = "Where have they that now (again?) from (here/there/then?) *getoverd*?"
That's as best I can do, don't have a clue what 'getoverd' means, but I can see it's the past participle of some verb.
How near am I?
Yep, almost correct. "Getoverd" is the past of "toveren", in German "toveren" would be "zaubern".
My point is, I didn't like the whole idea of the story, so I won't bother read the book!Quote:

And I love reading...
I hate Harry Potter, mind you I have read the first two books, and watched both films, which both were pityful.
I didn't rush to get the book my mom did.. Of cource I didn't read it because the others sucked. I think I'll watch the moovies thogh.. My girlfrind absolutely loves Harry Poter:rolleyes: . Besides movie theaters are dark :D.
The new book.. I found it in the store and threw it at the display. Thank you.
I didn't rush to get the book, but I read it in 2 days when I got it :P. It was okay, but not as good as the others
 I wouldn't have the patience. And I have too much to do anyhow.Quote:

Mmm. . . looks like there's a lot of love and hate going on here.
Personally, I think the books are great. The movies don't do them justice, unfortunately.
So for all you Harry-haters out there, do you hate Harry Potter because:
1. there's no technology in the books?
or
2. you think you're too cool and on the edge to like anything that is popular?
or
3. you secretly wish that you received as much attention as the books and the title character, but sadly, you don't and are consequently jealous?
I think you got it on the second guess...Quote:

No, I just find the whole damn concept extremely childish and stupid.Quote:

Fascinating. . . out of curiosity, what part of the concept is "extremely childish and stupid?" Please don't say "the whole thing". I'm sure your intelligence is above that (as you, I'm sure, are no longer childish).Quote:

Civix is the least childish person on the boards. Check his past posting history for details.
Nice. It would be interesting to hear a more detailed argument from civix, however, so that I can see where he is coming from.
>>No, I just find the whole damn concept extremely childish and stupid.
That's dumb. I'm 13, still a child, and I'm not stupid. Childish != Stupid.
 "the concept is childish and stupid" notice the "and" that does not mean it is stupid because it is childish...Quote:

As usual, Govt, I can never tell whether you're joking or not. :oQuote:
