WTF is this it popped up like the old messenger service i disabled.
It's a pop-up advert, surely you have seen them before?
not through console. i was getting them on messenger (net send) but i disabled it, is there a way to disable this one?
Sorry for delayed reply, been on vacation.
I think its actually a pop-up ad, not anything from messenger. If you look, the title has '- Microsoft Internet Explorer' on the end.
yea i know its not messenger and that its an ad, but what service are they using so i can disable it? I keep getting them and its rlly crappy to have half life killed for a damn ad.
>>but what service are they using so i can disable it? <<
It's a web page you dufus :rolleyes: It's just an IE window showing you a jpg of a static console image. To disable this, uninstall IE or something :D
:D I can't believe you fell for it...
o $$$$! duh me...haha o $$$$...
You sound just like my parents, they always click on the ads on the websites that look like popup windows (but you can tell easily that they aren't). My dad even clicked on one while he was using Linux one time!
The push button should've gave it all away.
RoD--;
your missing some code adrian:
Code:while (1 > 0)
{
RoD--;
}
well,
I was wondering how do you even get rid of all pop-ups. is there a software out there, for free ?:D
(i have yet to find one on google, or maybe i have missed it)
tnx
How could you miss it?Quote:

Thanks Hammer,
thats a good question! How Could I miss it?
(i guess thats what happens to you when you sit infront of the computer for more than 48 hrs and plan to finally get some sleep at 5 am.)
:o
Ben
only 48?? You have far to go, grasshopper
If I am not mistaken, you can turn off ALL pop ups via the registry. Yes, I have seen it in there. However a lot of web sites will be unusable as it is actually blocking ALL new windows.
Or something.
I use Pop-Up Stopper 2.8, I have it set (most of the time) to where I have to press ctrl or shift for a new window to open up. This stops all pop-ups.
I use POW! from http://www.analogx.com, and I really like it. The first time you get a particular popup, you have to add it to the list (which involves 3 mouse clicks total), and then it closes windows that pop up with that title. You can also stick in wildcards for the popup windows that stick some huge random serial number in there. You won't have a problem with websites becoming unfunctional because it only closes the ones you ask it to close. (Works really, really great when you have a HOSTS file blocking the ad servers. I have edexter running too, so I don't even see the 404 errors for the banner ads that can't load...basically ad free browsing everywhere)
wow, Thanks for the help,
but what about the small pop-ups with no indication of URLs. How would I be able to identify and eliminate those using what you suggested?
tnx.
When you get pop-ups without a URL bar, just right click on the page and go to properties, that will tell you the URL.Quote:

of course, of course!
Thanks Slave!
Ben
By the way BlackRat, is http://www.analogx.com the correct link?
and doesnt Windows have a similar option(facility) which allows you to block certain urls?
just out of curiosity, whats the difference between the two? tnx.
This is quite interesting (and i dont know if its just me!),
when i click on BlackRat's reference to analogx I get a dead link. when i click on mine(which I just copied and pasted on my reply) its working! hmmmmm, :D anywhooo,....
ben
ah, mine got the , in the link. That's why it didn't work. Windows does have something that, through a bit of trickery, will allow you to effectively block certain domains. It consists of editing the HOSTS file, which is basically a quick lookup table for IPs. However, if you were to tell your computer that a site's IP address is 128.0.0.1 (localhost) then it will look for the popup or banner on your computer...and not find it. If you go here there are some HOSTS files that you can download that will take the work out of it for you. I also strongly recommend getting eDexter to get rid of the 404s that go along with the HOSTS file trick. (there are also some HOSTS files on the eDexter site) Anyway, I guess that's it
sorry blackrat, I am having difficulties finding the program that you mentioned on analogx. would it happen to be in the archives?
tnx
>>128.0.0.1 (localhost)
Actually, the loopback IP is 127.0.0.1
Here's a direct link to POW!

>> >>128.0.0.1 (localhost)

That was a typo. I need to learn to pay attention as I type things instead of looking absent mindedly around the room.
excellent,
Thanks guys!
You could just use Mozilla - it's got a popup blocker built in, and it's free :D (and far superior to IE, imho :cool: )
dont forget to turn pop-ups back on when u visit cprogramming.com
There are also a bunch at Versiontracker.com: http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new...popup&x=17&y=5
