I dunno, kinda cool
This is a program I did when I saw a shape drawn with polar coordinates (I was done with my math test so i decided to look in a calculus book...I got a 73 on the test :() . I tried doing it myself. It just rotates a vector and multiplies each by a sine wave.
One is the sine of the angle * 4, one is the sine of the angle * 3, and one is the sine of an exponential model that is increasing and decreasing at a certain percent in a sine fashion (goes up, goes down, goes up, goes down, etc). The color and blended transparencies also move in sine waves.
EDIT: and oh yeah, move around with w,a,s,d and mouse to see the other two things.

I was going to add blended bitmaps and do all kinds of cool stuff but i'm working on a project that is actually cool so I'm back to that.

Very nice! I bet if you used DirectX/OpenGL and made them polygons with lights and fog it'd be even cooler. Has great potential for a screensaver.

I tried using polygons but the oscillating effect of the movement and transparency caused 'blips' in between adjacent polygons and stuff, and in short looked like a bunch of crap

ive actually seen something with that shape in it, ..........ah yes, in petzold's windows book, chapter 5, program : "Clover".

these are called rose petals, they're in basically every calculus book I've ever seen.
