Im making this post out of curiosity, seeing as though this is a programming community, I wonder if computer-literates share a trend in music preference.
I myself like especially progressive trance and to a lesser extent any form of techno :) .

Mostly classical and rancheros of the mariachi. (diverse, eh?) :D
Insane Clown Posse
Happy Hardcore
Theme Remixes
Original Themes
Video Game Music Remixes
Original Video Game Music
80's pop
Older metal/rock
I also like stuff like DJ Chip Man - Peanut Butter Jelly Time which is similar to the Witch Doctor cover.
I voted on everything except Jazz. You need more options on that poll.
Classical, Jazz, and Video Game music.
Edit: Trance and techno suck. I hope you die a horrible, horrible death...
Have a nice day! :D
Drum 'n Bass!!!!!
Geee, I didn't see that one coming ;)Quote:

I sit in this wierd limbo between Pop/Goth and Post Punk.. I suppose it depends on my mood and what I am coding. ;)
Classical, and Metal...
Many people think that's odd to have someone to like both classical and metal.
> DJ Chip Man - Peanut Butter Jelly Time
You are a king among men, my friend.
I don't know where i am in those choices, I like music from pc
games.:)
I like a mixture of the poll...
Trance...
some jazz...
some pop/r&b...
some rap...
some rock...
some classical...
oldies...
i'll listen to basically anything, limited country...
if it's not pop or most rap or country music ill listen to it. i dont mind oldies and like a variety of music, mostly rock.
rock and roll aint gonna die-AC/DC
Original video game music. I went to the trouble of recording many of the songs from FF7 (such as One Winged Angel) myself. Remixes are sometimes nice.
There are examples of just about every genre in my collection, mood thing - I play what I feel like listening too. I think I would have difficulty finding much Country and Western I could say I liked.
> You are a king among men, my friend.
I just had a PB sandwhich too! :D
Not at all, those are also my favorites.Quote:

What about cello metal ?!? (Apocalyptica)
Poly, hehehehe, video game music sort of IS techno if you think about it. Well, depending upon the game you're talking about.Quote:

Me personally, I created a few cds like this. One cd is full of theme remixes. Scooby doo, simpsons, smurfs, speed racer, mega man music, tetris, killer instinct, all your base, friends(by scooter), and the inspector gadget remix. Then, I have a cd which is full of composed midi remixes of video game music(from vgmusic.com) which was sent through a wavetable plug-in for winamp and outputted to wav files for a cd. Then, the SNES, NSF, and Sega Genesis plug-ins for winamp which used emulator ripped sound tracks from video games. And, that cd, which has batman stuff, zelda stuff, mega man, ninja gaiden, and metroid stuff from the nes days...that's kind of techno to me. It might not be "cool" techno, but, it's definitely not country music. :p
Yeah, I agree, Trance and Techno are dominant music types,Quote:

Meaning that you constantly think about it so it's not
really relaxing or anything. I like soft and background music.
MIDI isnt REALLY techno
Rap - no doubt, I love the style, the rythim :)
I like the sounds of games.
Especially old DOS games which just scream insane beeps out of the PC speaker.
Brilliant.
Bingo. I have a musical twin.Quote:

You must like Tool then. Ever heard the strings album composed by various artists as a tribute to Tool, called Third Eye Open? Do a search and you'll find where to order it. Its great stuff.

Ah, same with me :)
Then, I also like Arabic-kinda music, oh, and BHANGRA!!!!! I LOVE BHANGRA!!!!!
DALERMANDI
No -- just because something uses electronic instruments doesn't mean it's techno. You can write a symphony with electronic instruments, or a rag for piano using electronic instruments, or a waltz, or metal.Quote:

Is the music from a Zelda game techno? No. How about Chrono Trigger, or Mario?
Sure, there CAN be video game music that is techno, but in actuality, very little ever is.
> doesn't mean it's techno.
Gotcha. I pay very little attention to techno. I don't like it really. The closest to techno I like is happy hardcore and some of the things I listed.
I had a g/f who was into it hardcore and made a cd or two(published them, made money, etc.) - small time dj. Most of it's bland, and dull. Happy Hardcore is cool though:D.
I just wish more technoish music was like the last 30 seconds of the inspector gadget remix.
hey cmon that hurts :(Quote:

On a different note, I can't stand RnB.... hmmm, how to describe it...
RnB to me is like... you know that feeling you get immediately after you trip over and bang your head on something hard? that's the feeling i get when I 'hear' RnB. All dizzy n stupified :p
none of the above...
I like emo, punk, and some hardcore
I'm confused, I thought this was a 'which music' do you prefer thread? That's impossible (look at the option under pop/rnb)

though I like the ocasional rap song like "Baby got back" by Sir Mixalot.
Whenever I am on my PC, my Techno, drum n bass and Dance selections are on full whack. Can't here anything but I love the feeling that my hands are typing to the music.
Have been told off twice today already at school because I have been listening to my music on the forum and it was 'too loud'!
LaD:
>>> Bingo. I have a musical twin.
Spooky...
>>> You must like Tool then.
... Lateralus is playing as I type.
Stone Sour, Linkin Park, POD, and techno too :P
same here, I like tool a lot, esp sober but basically everything they've done.Quote:

Red Hot chilli peppers
rap -- Eminem
or enything else with a good beat.
listening to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 right now :p
Rap = fascist crap (even with talent like Eminem- crap)
Acid Punk = crap
"Punk Rock" = crap
Pop = crap (with some exceptions)
Rock = bad, with a large section of goodness
Classical = nice
Instrumental = this category is too broad
Jazz = #1, super-duper, all the way, awesome, elite, excellent
This is not an opinion; this is truth.
-Strumming 'G' and 'Aflat' while screaming (aka acid punk) is a sad excuse for music.
-Rap is decivilizing jabbering with an occasional good beat.
-"Punk Rock" is pop for rich white kids.
-Pop music reflects our current social standing- corrupted shallow ####.
-Rock is an evolution of blues and it often good; but not that often.
-Classical music is the root of all western music and should be respected as such.
-Jazz is an artform and good to listen to.
Amen.
Fascist? WTF? How can a musical genre be fascist?
>> Since when did the peppers become metal?
I didn't say they were. I said I liked metal, then went on to listing some of my favourite bands
>>-"Punk Rock" is pop for rich white kids.
Um I like punk rock and I'm far from rich...
My bands:
Metallica
ACDC
New Found Glory
Allister
Breaking Benjamin
12 Stones
Creed
Incubus
Caroline's Spine
Disturbed
System of a down
Godsmack
Good Charlotte
Blink 182
Larger than life
Rammstein
Suburban Legends
The Offspring
Um there are alot more...btw I just broke 1100 mp3s on my computer :D Taking up exactly 3.92 GB (4,211,740,672 bytes)...wow more than I thought heh
//napKIN
ALRIGHT A SYSTEM OF A DOWN FAN! you all know system is best!
>>>>"Punk Rock" is pop for rich white kids.
i think i'd agree, "punk" isnt what it used to be, TRUE punk is the underground stuff, and now you got bands like sum41, and blink 182 that are "punk" and youre right, all these little rich white kids are jumping on the bandwagon.
slipknot, mudvayne, system of a down, skrape, deadsy, korn(..yes korn) , deftones, spineshank, shuvel, finger11, nonpoint, cold(not coldplay) sevendust...rock on!
Teeny Bop Music!!!!!!!
NOT :D
The poll says: 40% for metal, that's great!
So most people aree with me.
Yes they are not metal, and Metallica is great... One of the best metal bands...Quote:

It's good we have some SOaD fans, because they have many great songs...
As a teenager we used to listen mostly to punk/post-punk bands and of course the stuff on the radio.
Classics:
Blondie (heart of glass!)
The Ramones
The Cure (killing an arab!)
The Clash
The Velvet Underground
Bauhaus
Nitzer Ebb
Taking Heads
David Bowie
Forgettable:
Rush
The Dead Milkmen
The Dead Kennedy's
Weird Al Yankovik
Adam Ant
The B-52's
And who actually survives through everything? Elton John!
:D
I agree with ammar , i love both classical and metal too
Mozart and Tscheikovisky are great
Metallica and LinkinPark are both great too :-)
