Large Caliber LAN Party
Ok heres the basic deal; The biggest LAN party i have ran was 25 people, and everyone loved it. Lately alot of different sites are having lan parties, for 2003 and such. We have a very large building, like a warehouse type deal, in Vineland NJ rented out for the 8th of July, 2003.
I'm mentioning this now as anyone within range that wants to attend, is more than welcome, we want to go huge. We have the means to host around 500 computers at the moment, and not that i think we'll need to, but i can add 500 to that with a phone call or two. Theres adaquate room for these people, along with the eclectricity. All games will be considerd and more than likely used, and this will span over till (as of now) July 10th, 2003.
I just want some feedback on who would consider attending, please if you'd be willing to travel to it post it, but if you know you can't make it don't say you could, please.

Update:
We've secured two high speed dedicated servers. One will be a dedicated game server, the other a dedicated file sharing server. The entire network will be comprised of 100mbit connection on Optic cables, we'll have some (around 20) NIC's designed to run these, otherwise you'll be required to supply your own. Should the optic become a problem we'll be running CAT5 10/100, its all depending.

i may consider going.. i'll have my liscence by then so i could probably just drive down. I live in a little town in north jersey that is about 20 minutes west of New York CIty.
how many people do you think are going to make it?

now for the real question....how many games can hold 1000 players at one time :D
thatd be interesting to see, for example, a grand melee of MechCommander or Mechwarrior with 1000 people dropped into the world all at one time......
or even a grand melee of Age of Empires with 1000 empires pitted against each other at the same time...
how fun :D

I'll definetely consider attending, I live in NJ as well.

Well we have around 50 positives, i don't feel like counting the names list up now. We figure if we have two we can run a few different game servers, as we have the normal pc's that we usually run half life on, these other two are rented dedicated's, i don't know the stats but my bud sounded pretty happy to have em so they must be pretty high end.
Also we did consider the problem of 1000 people, one game, one network, one server, which is why we wanted to use the fiber optic network (we use it normally so we all have the cards and hubs with FO plugs), but we abondoned that idea when we realized how many poeple don't have that ability hardware wise.
Some of the games on the list at the moment(theres alot these are a few):
Quake 3 Team Arena
Unreal T.
Half-life (including more than 50 customized mods for it)
Mechwarrior
Need for Speed 4 (which ever that one is)
Viper Racing
etc
Also we decided the lan party will be the week of July 10th, the following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
