I voted C++. I just love love love OOP and the low-level access that C++ provides.
Yeah, I voted for C++. The more I understand OOP, the more I love it. It really helps to shorten how much code you need in your progams, and it's reusable.
I use English the most. Not really my choice, my organization uses it as a standard.
I definetly use c++ the most of any language.
<- C++ for all reasons stated above
c++
for the sex appeal.
C++
only language I really know how to program in, other than html (which is still a language, not necessarily a programming one though).
English
My own slant of jibberish.
First Bangla, then English :)
For programming language:
Definitely C , then Perl
Cprogramming.com hmmm, I think that narrows it down a bit
anyway I mostly use C++ with the occasional C. I find C++ easier to use with all but the smallest projects (thanks to oop) currently learning to master win32 and Directx. bahh humbug!! bloody microsoft and their damn Hungarian notation :)
Um, just wondering, what is Hungarian notation?Quote:

I use Spanish and English most. Trying to learn French but no exactly because I'm interested. After that C++ and a bit of JavaScript.
Happy new year!

Wow, that Hungarian notation is totally incomprehesible. Why would someone spend so much time to come up with a system of naming identifiers if that system would yield such undecipherable identifiers as these:
That code just makes me want to cry except for 'bltbyte' which makes me want a BLT.Code:1 #include "sy.h"
2 extern int *rgwDic;
3 extern int bsyMac;
4 struct SY *PsySz(char sz[])
6 {
7 char *pch;
8 int cch;
9 struct SY *psy, *PsyCreate();
10 int *pbsy;
11 int cwSz;
12 unsigned wHash=0;
13 pch=sz;
14 while (*pch!=0
15 wHash=(wHash<>11+*pch++;
16 cch=pch-sz;
17 pbsy=&rgbsyHash[(wHash&077777)%cwHash];
18 for (; *pbsy!=0; pbsy = &psy->bsyNext)
19 {
20 char *szSy;
21 szSy= (psy=(struct SY*)&rgwDic[*pbsy])->sz;
22 pch=sz;
23 while (*pch==*szSy++)
24 {
25 if (*pch++==0)
26 return (psy);
27 }
28 }
29 cwSz=0;
30 if (cch>=2)
31 cwSz=(cch-2/sizeof(int)+1;
32 *pbsy=(int *)(psy=PsyCreate(cwSY+cwSz))-rgwDic;
33 Zero((int *)psy,cwSY);
34 bltbyte(sz, psy->sz, cch+1);
35 return(psy);
36 }
Currently C++, but it changes with the project/application. Sometimes Pascal, (Delphi), sometimes Fortran.
BTW, your name geophyzzer, and your mention of MATLAB bought horrid memories of strain ellipsoids and the like back to me!
At work I currently use C most. But I think in new projects I will use C++ and Java more.
Shiro, do you just use plain C, or do you use some API(s)?
We use a lot of APIs, usually our customers provide us with APIs for their products. Our company has no own products, we do development projects for companies. Only if they haven't or if we have to develop new hardware, we have to write APIs by ourselves.
C++
Althought I know Visual Basic, and Java, but they are not compared to C++, I enjoy coding in C++ more than any other language.
C++ 4 president *g
Why haven't u add PHP to the poll?
PHP is the most used Apache module?
And is running on 25% of the net servers!!!
I use a lot of php for different projects (for the most database stuff)
Everyone will be shocked to learn that I use C the most at work. Though I have been known to use C++ a little and Perl extensively for my own uses.
-Prelude
Shocked... except for the fact that you've mentioned it many many times :rolleyes:Quote:

Anyways, C++ owns C. End of discussion! :p
c++ has more sylables, therefore it is a better language:D. Visual Basic has too many sylables, therefore it sucks.
You don't like hungarian notation? I think it's great myself. I constantly forget variable types, and when the variables pop-up on the autocomplete in VC++ I can say "Oh, it starts with a n, must be an int".
I never use hungarian notation. It complexifies your code. In MSVC++ I just place my cursor over where a variable use used and a tooltip comes up showing how it was declared.

Waitaminute...I didn't like structural geology...probably why I got into seismology.
And MATLAB rocks, for those who don't know it...if nothing else, it got me a job in Hawaii ;)
face_master, same here, but reading examples with Hungarian Notation makes me want to kill someone.
C++ is the best that human ever creat....
C++ Almost like a CHAVY S.U.V.; IF you know how to drive it; THE ROAD IS YOURS..
I can't believe your likening C++ to an SUV. SUVs are bulky, ineffiecent, and dangerous; studies show that SUVs are likely to tip over even in low speed crashes. On the other hand, C++, written correctly, is elegant and safe. I don't see how the two are anything like each other.Quote:

I'm the only one using Java, I feel so alone.
The library functions make everything so simple. I can make a web browser or an e-mail client in like two pages of code. Plus I can use the binary on my linux or windows box. ( and i'm forgetful sometimes so automatic garbage-collection is nice )
btw: I don't think java is the best, hell , I use C++ in all my courses ; but I just don't think Java should be ruled out for certain desktop applications.
Tsk tsk tsk. Another Java biach. The force is weak with this one, sir.
I don't know anything about java, so I was just wondering, why do you hate it so much? What makes it worse than C++?Quote:

On a side note, does anyone else find 86 votes for FORTRAN to be a little suspicious?
>I'm the only one using Java, I feel so alone.
Well, I use Java too and I like it, but it's currently not my most used language.
>>why do you hate it so much? What makes it worse than C++?
Read some award winning literacy by face_master ;)
ok... who is the ***** that messed up with the poll with the 86 Fortran votes?
Yeah, that seems a little odd to me, too. Sigh.Quote:

I suspect the ***** that "messed up the poll" was me.
When people post new polls on the board, they inevitably fail to set an expiration date, or set a ridiculously long one. Since voting in an old thread bumps it, (against the board rules), I habitually open all new polls that get posted and either set or modify, (as necessary), the poll expiry date, (rarely more than 7 days).
Most of the polls are so dumb, I don't bother voting, but in this case I did, however, instead of going back up through the menu tree, and then coming back down again, I edited the vote count for Fortran to "whatever it was + 1".
So far this is fact.
Now I'm guessing, when I did that, I probably missed the delete key and then typed the "next" digit, thus making the figure /much/ larger than it should have been. I have now split the difference and set Fortran to 7. I believe this to be fair.
Anyone who chooses to differ, is free, (as at any time), to PM me or another mod.
If anyone /knows/ different - then my guess was wrong of course. Also, perhaps there really are more Fortran fans out there than we suspect...
I prefer C over C++, contrary to most people here.

i do prefer C over C++ aswell.Quote:

Has C something that C++ hasn't? (besides the Xtra speed)
> ok... who is the ***** that messed up with the poll with the 86 Fortran votes?
::raises hand::
These polls are such a waste of time. People, we're on a board for cprogramming. You expect an even cross section of programmers here? Poll a general programming newsgroup or something.
*smacks Cheez's hand*... BAD CHEEZ
actually, I really didn't care... just needed a reason to type... or something...
>>> ::raises hand::
Okay, so ignore what I said earlier!
Even w/ your amended value for it, it's interesting to see that there are more Fortran programmers than C#, here... Is C, perhaps, closer to Fortran (having never used Fortran)?
more likely people are just trying to be funny
A friend of mine uses Fortran a lot, he uses it for parallel programming, he makes simulations. I haven't understand yet why, but it seems that Fortran is a good choice for parallel computing systems.
I think C is closer than Fortran than C#. I thought Pascal was even closer to Fortran than C, but I could be wrong since I'm told Fortran has changed a lot during the many years it is used.
Flash and another language caled Game Maker... yes, its espacially made for doing games...
You want it... it's free go to

I agree, it is very dangerous, but as I said , If you know how to drive it, it is very safe,
Any language, as any car are dangerous, but it depends on the driver. Have you try the shavy TAHOE 2003, it is fun. strong motor, as great as C++
>>> I think C is closer than Fortran than C#. I thought Pascal was even closer to Fortran than C,
I think it is certainly true that early Fortrans, Fortran-66, were/are not unlike C, (although of course, the Fortran was around a lot earlier so it is more correct to say that C is Fortran like), and Pascal is Fortran-77 like, but the Fortran-9x standards are a good bit different.
Many scientists use Fortran as the language of choice because it is so good at mathematics, it was, after all, designed to be - FORmula TRANslator.
I used Fortran daily until about '96.
