Is there any other way to fix the compatability issue with the CD creator other than buying a new version. That seems to be the only advice offered by anyone else, including the Roxio website.

you don't. it doesn't run on xp. period. buy or warez yourself something else.
CDR-Win and Fireburner both work on XP, but only after
you install current aspi drivers.
There may be others like Nero and NTI CD Maker that also
work. I don't know.
But I have never liked or used Easy CD Creator because it
never worked right on my computers.
