University of Washington
Hey, I'm applying to several schools for my bachelors in programming, and one of the campuses I'm looking at is the University of Washington. Has anyone here attended UW? I'm trying to get a feel for how good it is. What I care about the most is being somewhat challenged, preferably one that focuses more on problem solving over design. I do NOT want a school that spends a month working on "for" loops etc!
Example, I asked some questions to a couple of my friends who are about ready to graduate from some local colleges here in programming: "So what type of object oriented programming did you do?" Answer-> "Uh... well we never really got to object oriented programming..." "Uh, ok, what about algorithms?" Answer->"Oh, you mean like bubble sort? Man that was hard, took our class forever!" This is the type of thing I'm trying to avoid at all costs! :D

from this page, i would say that uw has an excellent cs dept. although this is specifically looking at graduate level, i'm sure it reflects the quaity of their undergraduate education as well. but besides that point, i'm a senior in cs from another school (which is also on that list) and have always heard great things about cs at uw.
hope you get in, good luck.

Thanks, I've done a lot of research over the last 24 hours and have come to same conclusion as you! <fingers crossed he gets in> :D

Yeah, UW isn't specifically a great school for programming. There are lots of (expesive) choices though. Such as say, ITT tech, DeVry, etc...
But, like I said, expensive ;)
I'll probably go to UW Tacoma once I'm done with my Associates at Olympic College in Bremerton.
