So here's the question.....
Would people prefer to have a brand new fresh start with stats or to have their old stats come over with them?

on second thoughts - this a nice fresh sparkling board, maybe we should start them again!
Maybe if you combined these stats with those...but I don't really care either way.
Hard to say
- There's all my registered posts as 'Salem'
- There's all my registered posts as 'Stee'
- There's all my unregistered 'Stee' posts
- There's all my posts from the pre-ultraboard days (now that must be going back a bit)...
Do I really want to know? The first two add up to a sizeable number.
If you're bringing over the whole ultraboard, then I'd vote yes.
If you're not, then I'd vote no.
Basically, people should have stats consistent with the current message database, otherwise several people will have more posts than are in the database - see the "Total Threads: 277 | Total Posts: 2553" on the front page.
i dont think they should - i agree that the post number should correspond to the current board.
It would be better to get all the website features working and to maybe add another discussion board or two so that a wider audience of developers can come here. I like what you did here, this place is nice, but it's limited because C/C++ are antiquated. It doesn't make sense that you guys should have such a nice interface and not be open to next generation languages.
If you can you should transfer the posts to CD. To bad recordable DVD's are not available yet because that would work a lot better. Perhaps let people here help out a bit more. Maybe let us send a few dollars to help out, but at the same time appeal to the wider audience in return. There a lot of possibilities and no hurry to make decisions.
Okay I'll answer this question. I like this new board because the posts can be edited. This means that my posts will be higher quality. I might not want to lose them. On the old board I posted a lot of junk though. It might be a good idea to archive Stee's and Sunlights posts and a few others and than send the rest to hell. As far as the carry over goes, it's been answered. The post count should reflect the current database. Just that getting rid of some of the more experienced programmers history would be a loss.
They are - they just cost a ton.Quote:

What if someone went through UB and saved good threads? (eg, threads with unique/difficult questions and good GD threads)
Right now, I plan to keep the old board up as a reference, with posting closed, but with the boards available for viewing. That would give plenty of opportunity to move over, or move into a database, interesting threads.
... with the search option fixed? ...
