Logo Writer!!!!
Not C++... moved to GD.
Why are java and html together?
also, I dont even think html is considered a programming languge.
Well I did learn html first, and then java was my first programming language.
My first language was Pascal in high school
Good question: HTML is not a programming language.
Mr. C.
i would consider html a program language, ina sorts.
It was my first language, but i said VB cause i didn't see it there.
HyperText Markup Language
Markup language - A coding system, such as HTML and SGML, used to structure, index, and link text files.
Programming language - An artificial language used to write instructions that can be translated into machine language and then executed by a computer.
I think learning C++ first was a bad idea for me...I got a book in 9th grade on C++ from a math teacher, and I tried reading it but I didn't learn anything because I got so frustrated. I really got into it in 10th grade and started to learn stuff. I would have been better served by learning a less-difficult programming language such as visual basic. But then again because I learned C++ first everything else seems...well...much easier.
COBOL.

I was going to say COBOL!
Okay okay, FORTRAN
wow.. this question has only been asked 100 times.
oh well.
i started with PASCAL, and i never looked back.
grrrrrrrrrrrr
unfortunately this person forgot to include the wonderful PASCAL and COBOL/FORTRAN and *gasp* ADA95 or ADA83!!!
wow.. such a crime is only punishable by 5 years of coding with visual basic!
basic foo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was first taught logo in school (grade 4, 5) and then they taught q-basic (grade 5 and 6). I dont remember much though... ;)
assembly language. z80 and 6502 processors. (zx spectrum/bbc model b)
my first is ActionScript which is a script language I still work with even now. ;)
VB. Shadow has a good point, if you learm c/c++ the rest come much easier. Going from vb to c++ realyy made me wonder what was the visual part of visual c++, at least the first couple semesters where we only did console programs.
Using Delphi & starting embedded vb at work, though.
Pascal.
ditto. version 2.0 to be exact. it was for DOS :cool:Quote:

Pascal for about two weeks but now of course it's c++ (for about the past 7 months)
But I'm taking a Pascal programming class in school, because there is nothing better to take. It is so annoying having to go back to using Pascal. It's weird, during the day I'm in Pascal mode then when I get home I have to shift back into c++ mode. I get asked way too many questions about programming this year at school...come on people if I could figure it out then you sure can too.
Well, I assume that nobody is going to count Batch, and I'm not sure it was first anyway...so I said Q-Basic. I read a book on GW-Basic (super old school) and just applied it to Q-basic. I was a 4th grader.
I started with BASIC when I was 12 (for about half a year). Then a few years nothing. When I was 16 I started programming again (Pascal / assembly 6809).
C++. After that everything else (other than assembler) looked like kiddie crap to me.
Pascal, here.
PASCAL really should be up there cause an awful lot of people learn to code on PASCAL. I learned on Commodore64's version of BASIC. I think I was about 8 years old when I wrote my first "hello world"
My first attempt was in BASIC at school, when I was 14 and had no idea about computers at all. Pascal was the second but I didn't like it.
On a little side note, did you ever notice that some people always feel the urge to mention some incredibly young age in which they learned programming; as if one had the neuron connections to understand the logic at those ages (which, according to modern psychology, they don't).
On the same note, I wrote my first major COBOL database at the tender age of 1 and 1/2; you wouldn't believe how hard it was to work with those Unix AT&T boxes when I was constantly making poopies in my diaper.
well I started just before I turned 14. I'm now 15 and becuase I started at that age its all been easier.
i wanted to start @ C++ but my comp sci one class was VB n i had to pass it to take CS2.
I dont like vb, if your study'n vb (and not planning to stay in just vb) it teaches bad habits when u go to other languages.
It think, that my first language was Russian (-> cause I'm a Russian guy-> but I live in Germany and study there), than German, than
English after it French and now Latin. (-> I hope that I learn Spanish next year). :D
But the first language for programming, I learned was HTML (-> but it is not really a programming language, it's a style formatting language -> SGML).
After it I learned JavaScript.
And many other languages (Perl, PHP, SQL, XML, Java, Python,....).
But I have never learned Basic, yes a bit VBS, but not more.
At the end C++ and Assembly!
Maybe some TPascal -> Delphi!!!!
Now, I'm gonna learn OpenGL and DirectX programming with C/C++.
well, scourfish, there isn't much logic involved in Basic languages. They're simple, and laced with gotos. Any above average elementary student with an interest for it can handle it.
scourfish, that was meant to be an stab I assume. I said I wrote hello world at 8; I didn't say I was developing operating systems. I understood gotos and for loops and that's about it. Don't be such a turd.
edit: anyhow, I said "I think about 8" I could be off if you care to do the math as to when commodore64 came out. I don't.
>did you ever notice that some people always feel the urge to mention some

Maybe they did learn at that age and were just stating fact. I started at 16, does that count as incredibly young?
-Prelude
first language i learned was turing lol its an actual language though no one has ever heard of it before :D i started at 14
BASIC!
//Edit, When I was.. I think I was 9 or 10. 3rd or Forth Grade.
I know Turing... learned it at 12/13 in school. It's a truly Canadian programming language. :DQuote:

16 huh? hmmm that is young, not incredibly young mind.
Oh Q. yes..It was Basic of course.

put "canadian programming languages lol"
put "what ya think of this language?"
get input
if input = "SUCKS!"
then put "you're right"
else if input = "ROCKS!"
then put "guess again"
