David Eddings
I'm going to re-read the Belgariad and the Mallorean. Sorry if I spelt those slightly wrong. Anyway, this is a 10 book series. There are also now 2 additional new books that go along with it, and infact a third book about the author himself and his ideas about his own series. Now Eddings has 2 addition 3 book series involving the same characters and infact I myself consider those 6 books part of the series overall but I saw that on amazon.com they thought otherwise. Anyway, I did not finish 'The Lord Of The Rings', however with those books I can still wait because there are 3 movies, one comming out each year.
The David Eddings books were great the first time I read them. This was about 10 years ago. A long long time ago...

I love your taste in books dean. Try out the riftwar saga by raymond e. feist too. This starts with a book called magician. They are excellant. Also the book of words by j.v.jones which is a small 3 book series that is also excellent. The first book in that series is called the bakers boy.

The Redemption of Althalus was one of the worst books I've ever read. The Belgariad is really good, but the Mallorean is pretty much the same but isn't as original.

i loved the belgariad (must have read it multiple times) but agree with the above the redemption of althalus has really lost the plot (i got bored after a couple of hours)... i am afraid terry pratchett rules at the moment and douglas adams of course

I don't think I'll ever read 'The Redemption of Althalus'. I considered downloading it as a Microsoft Reader e-book, but I read all the bad reviews and decided otherwise.
I think this book is much different than Eddings original series such as the Mallorean and Belgariad, Tamuli and Elenium.
I'll look up j.v.jones. See, I just moved into a new home and it is like paradise here, and I want to relive some books I read about a decade ago. I want to see what they are like now. Than I intend to write my own book. Actually I have the plot already. It's not so much fantasy as horror.
I'm glad others liked these books. Remember that Eddings is about 85 years old now. At least I though that he was old, because I remember looking it up about 5 years ago, thought he was 80. I guess I should confirm this because I could be wrong.
