very true, though my first dip into linux was redhat, i thought it was good, nice change...i never used rpm's until i knew howto compile from source, and know the basics of installing/removing software from console. Though rpm's are great for the lazy people, you don't get a chance to select options to compile with, and it install's binaries&libraries where it wants to unless specified.
