I selected API because I just got a book 'Sams teach yourself windows programming in 21 days' and seems exciting. Never tried anything else though.

I have VC++ so I use MFC for GUI stuff (even though I call a lot of APIs directly)
API calls for most simple stuff........
Try a little ATL now and again....
What is atl?

I selected API because I'm trying to teach myself to program for Windows with Petzold's book :) (I love it so far, I actually get it!)
There's a good book for windowsAPI ... Sams Teach Yourself Windows Programming in 21 days :)
