the first idea that came to my head is "Window Crap Edition" but thats not anything MS would make. it proablly meant something but Win ME replaced it.
It is the Windows operating system for portable devices such as palm pilots. However, I think a new version of XP has come out for portable devices.
do you ever have a clue what you're talking about? windoze CE is a version for small portable devices, and in no way replaced or was replaced by windoze ME.Quote:

Not just portable devices, many domestic appliances and so on can have CE in them. It is MS's standard offering as an OS to the embedded software industry.
If you look at MSDN documentation, you will see which API routines are supported and which are not. It is a slimmed down version of Windows. It does offer some power management services which I have never seen used in a normal desktop type system, (but there are probably examples - postcard answers not required).
You can get a package called Platform Builder which enables you to write code with Embedded Visual C++ and download it into your target device. The networking capabilities are really quite good, you can run your program on the target but debug it on the PC.
We used it in a Casio Cassiopeia handheld to build a portable ticket issuing machine for bus/train personnel. It's not bad.
As an aside, I can't remember what CE stands for, sorry!
Compact Edition?
CE = Consumer Electronics from what I've read.
Thanks for all of your help, guys.
I think im gonna go buy me a copy now.:D
I believe the dreamcase has been hacked to run Linux.
I would look around the web and find out more about it, cus its alot cheaper than buying a windows os.
