The "mainstream language of choice" will be the best suited tool for the job.
/me collapses from the exhaustion of this topic.
you shouldnt have asked this in the C board.
>What programming language(s) to you think will be mainstream and language of choice for future software development?
This is a naive question since the language of choice is the one which is best suited to the problem at hand. For example, if you need the program to do complex string handling heavily and speed isn't a primary concern, one would be a fool to prefer C since other languages such as Perl can do with one line what would take C 50. Which language could you use to solve the problem and develop the application in the shortest amount of time? This is the question since the faster you can finish a project, the less it costs.

Prelude, you continually impress me!
Since the growth of web development and E-commerce, I think Java will be language of choice. For future mainstream language, I vote
for JAVA.

i think english is the best language because most of the programming language are related to english. so if you dont know english, you cant even understand this message. hehehehehe.
But you're missing out on all these great languages
Or maybe not....
>But you're missing out on all these great languages
That is a truly interesting page.

To be a programming professional, it requires you not only
proficience in one language but several. Each of programming
languages currently in market can't perfectly use in development for a wide range of SW applications. For example, ASM and C is most widely use to develop embedded SW today while Java is
ideally use in web development. Although SUN company has been trying to dominate the market by their programming language, JAVA. but java is still not a unique programming language of choice in all software development. Hence, if you try
to be a pro, you need to master several languages. Base on my experience, I think C, C++, Java, Vbasic have been mainstream programming languages and they will continue to use widely in SW development in the future.

ADA???
COBOL??
Are you expecting a serious response?
Anyway...everyone knows Actionscript is the language of the true genious........
This does not really count as a survey.
For a survey, you need to pick a random sample.
That will ensure that the results are not biased in any way.
In other words, you shouldn't post this survey in a C board.
For such a survey, I would go to a random place
(e.g. college/any community) and ask this question
to random people.
I won't go to any college/community that is biased toward
one of the answers of the survey. (e.g. like you asked this
in a C board.)
Good Luck.

ditto to some of the above people...
DON"T POST THIS IN THE C BOARD, tose will be the people who see it. In fact, even posing it on this site isn't realy a random sample either.
I just happenned to see this while viewing "whose online"
And, i voed C++ just incase you want to know.

You are probablly right! I was not suppose to post here, but I try to test how C people behave with fairness and bias. With their knowledge and education I believe they will fairly vote for the
programming language(s) they like.
Thanx for suggestion anyway!
