Do you know of an algorithm that can
take a closed shape (say a figure 8)
and determined which pixels are inside
the shape and which are outside?
sorry, not entirely but it sounds like it depends on the shape. Try going to www.opengl.org or www.gamedev.net - this is more of a graphical question and they will be better at answering your question (hopefully!)
