clear the screen in console input

I am wondering how can I clear in a console application under Linux or Unix environment?

sorry, I was saying "clear the screen" in last post...

Try this command to clear the screen

system("clear")

I got this error when I use system('clear');

main.cc:98: character constant too long
main.cc:98: cannot convert `int' to `const char *' for argument `1' to
`system (const char *)'


any help?

Oh I used ' instead of ".
