power supply?
well... i can't find any forum anywhere that could be as helpful or related to this.
my computer won't turn on. well, the power supply doesn't turn on. the little fan doesn't spin... no whiring sound. nothing.
do i need to replace the power supply or can i clean it. i have five cats that shed a lot. i am a smoker too. i have found a considerable amount of hair and dust inside of the case.
any ideas?

Dont want to offend you, but have you tried the fuse??

CHeck the obvious stuff first... like Fordy said. Besides the fuse, check that you have power coming from your outlet, try swapping cables with your monitor cable. If your monitor stops working and your computer starts... well then. :)
Sometimes it isn't your power supply. Some power supplies require certain loading in order to turn on and run. This has something to do with safeguards for shorts, etc. I have only seen that in newer power supplies, so if your computer is older (PII or equiv. and less), it is most likely that your power supply is bad.
It could also be your switch is bad. Short past the switch with an alligator clip jumper. (or a paperclip and a pair of insulated pliers... especially use the pliers if it is a 120V line break switch... don't touch the chassy).
I don't want to just tell you to go buy a new p/s when it might not be the problem. Then you would be mad at me. Use your best judgement... (if you have a multimeter... use that to test output... remember only to test DC to ground... if you test AC to ground, you will tack-weld your lead to the chassy)
Good luck.
