Ok, im in England and have the upmost respect for the Americans.

I dont want to go where the 'dislike' America thread went...

hows about we talk about the unique things America has done for us!

You know, like us Britains did years ago.lol

Whine, whine, but oh why? You may say--but you can clear off......im just trying to redress the balance of this site! (in regards to anti USA posts)..

No one seems to post the good points, except in defence of a GREAT nation-now, is that right?

Computers, Internet, the Constitution (one of the most beautiful in the whole world), The Declaration of Sentiments, Landing on the Moon, Florida, New York, Rocky Mountains, Ford (the man), Blues, Jazz, Rock, Science, the american way of life... and finally, my preferred... the multi-cultural society and general tolerance towards the minorities in a country where a Pole, a Japanese, a Cuban and a Nigerian can live in the same building.

I second that. America truly is a fantastic country with alot of great people living in it. America as a country is alot better then the leaders that try to run it. And Canadians are just jealous. Like a silly little brother that never is good enough.

America has the most diverse amount of racial backgrounds. Plain and simple. Not to mention that America freely (actually enough America makes the effort for those people to live in the US) lets in over 20,000 Cubans every year to try to improve their lives. Here is a nice, little fact about the amount of people who enter the US yearly: "The Urban Institute offers the estimate of 200,000 emigrants a year in the 1990s (Fix and Passel 1994, 23).". So you're telling me that out of those 200,000 people, most of them are white, rich Europeans? You gotta be kidding me. And about the slave situation: slavery was only a problem in the south, and the slaves from the south escaped to the northern states, not Canada.

The American Constitution was the first complete written national constitution. But the Greek had constitutions on the old-time, when their cities were states. The old cities had governments and written constitutions. Like the Athenian Constitution, which was written by Aristotle in 350 B.C.E. And don't forget about Plato's paper on the republic.

A lot of current math is from Europe, by mathematicians like Erdos, Laplace, Fourier, Lagrange, Descartes, Newton, Babbage, Riemann, Euler etc.

But a lot of people don't know that also Arabian, Japanese, Indian and Chinese math was also very well developed at same time. A reason why most scientific breakthroughs have taken place in the US is because the US stimulates scientific research more than most European countries do. This is also one of the reasons why European scientists go to the US. European scientists like Einstein, Mandelbrot, Dijkstra did great contributions to science, but most of those contributions was done at American research centres.

The US has Yellowstone, one of the most beautiful areas on Earth. It also seems to be some kind of required Mecca for Germans. Sometimes I think there are more Germans in Yellowstone than Americans. Can't blame 'em, I'd live there if I could.

There's at least one reason to like the US. It's not France.

I am sick and tired of viewing anti america posts on the site...i have stated i am not american, indeed im from England (not UK).

I have visited LOTS of fantastic US treasures (cities/towns/middle of god damn no-wheres etc) and met lots of people.

I know enough about economies and strategies to apprerciate the US achievements.

I was expecting argumentetive posts in relation to my thread, but all i got was canada v america.?!

Come on guys, read the anti american posts and they are full to the top of middle east/anywhere in the world i hate american scum posts.........


Now, we in England ARE an ally of the US-does this make me biased? NAH bollox to that..I am going on what my own eyes/ears have picked up.

Its ok to be patriotic but to actually thing that you are better than everyone else is stupid. Natianalism destroyes. If we don't learn to apreciate everybodies difference and most importanly learn from each other then we can only go backword.

I love america. I have been all around the globe but I like the US first (japan is second). This thread is very sad though seemingly populated by kids who never went outside of there own country once in there life. Every country is different, each having there good and bad parts of it. Everyone should have a real reason for saying why they don't like the country of america. Saying I don't like some of there policies isn't enough, look at your own country I'm sure their is some policies that it has that you don't like. Basing your judgements on only a few people you meet isn't enough. I have met many canadians who are rude, obnoxious and just plain morons (and other countries too). Do I dislike canada for it? No I love canada the same. A person who has a bad personality does not have it because of their citizenship it is because of them. People who can't discern that are children. And just to set the record straight asians have the most beautiful women :D

This issue has been so... ineffectively talked about and with such an high pitch at times, that I figure we just let it die with that gem the asterisk guy presented us with.

Why I like america

1. Nearly everyone goes to school no matter how they do.
2. Every last view is held on every last subject.
3. We proved that a democratic republic works.
4. We are made up of people from all over the world.
5. Some of the finist leaders of the 20th century are american or part american.
6. We had a civil war instead of just breaking apeart.
7. We have either lost or tied all are wars. (technicly)
8. We donate huge sums to charity as well as medical and other scientific projects.
9. We protect countires that Britan and France orginaly said they would.
10. We are the main force in every UN or Nato mission.

1. Lots of public land and streams
2. Hunting and fishing legal and encouraged.
3. Freedom to travel in and out of the country (Cuba being a stupid exception). Yes, other countries have this freedom, but plenty don't.
4. The Bill of Rights (1st ten amendments to the Constitution), even though they are often under various assaults.
5. Borders Canada, which is a nice and friendly country. They may not be so pleased :)
6. Diversity of cultures. Sometimes a flashpoint, but overall a good thing.
7. Freedom to succeed financially if ready to work hard. Sometimes if you don't. :eek:
8. Decent educational system, especially at the University level. Had a Japanese roomate once who said the lower grades were really hard, but the universities were a joke, so they came here for college.
9. Decent health system. Has definite problems, but most people can get most care when they need it. Many Canadians pay extra to come here and avoid the wait in their more egalitarian system.
10. The best music. There's some good music overseas, and plenty of crap here, but hey, look at France. Has any good music come out of there since Django Reinhardt?
11. Lack of class divisions. Sure, there are racial and economic divides, same as every non homogeneous country, but it's not based on who your ancestors are.
12. We try to distinguish right from wrong, and not claim it's all a gray kind of spectrum. We have blind spots, are wrong sometimes, and sometimes choose what we really know is wrong. But we make the effort to distinguish, and not treat every group or individual claim or action as pretty much equivalent. There is a gray area, but there's also right and wrong, and sometimes you have to take a stand. Although far from perfect, the US does that.

One of the main reasons, or rather the primary reason why I decided to stay away from the GD forum for a while is stupid ignorant American haters........for some unknown reason I decided to look at the GD forum...(damn it), I usually just go to the programming forums........you people that have nothing else better to do than to bash other countries make me sick. I think that the mods need to take a step to stop all this country bashing............Now I am going to be angry for the a while (I only read some posts) Thankfully didn't read the whole thread.

Yeah, you know, the title of this thread is "A Reason To Like America". There are various reasons to dislike America, and several threads to express that.
But this thread says "A Reason to Like America". Use the other threads to discuss what you don't like about America, or start one of your own, if you have something new to say.
The US isn't perfect, but it's not Satan either. It's just big. It's good and bad qualities get magnified.
If you're proud of your country, great. If bunches of your countrymen and women are trying to get into the US, legally or illegally, think about why.

America, the land of the free, home, and the brave, and my HOME!.
