Video Decompression
I tried to open a .avi movie in Sound Forge and it says I don't have the necessary programs to decompress the movie... What? And I can't play it using a normal Real Player either.... Grr... How do I decompress a movie? * I almost typed "decompose", :D *
-
what format is the movie in?
-
-
what is its compression method? .avi is just a microsoft movie. there are different 'codecs', drivers to decode movies, that you might need to run your movie.
-
Oh... I don't know, I really haven't done anything with movies before, so I dunno... *sigh* It's a movie I download from the internet and I can't open it... Grrr... And it took me a long time to download too! ^.^

Sounds like you need a codec your dont have. Go to DivX.Com and download DivX 5.0. Install. Run. End of problem most likely.

If you're using a web browser anywhere a long the line it may be at fault. I had a problem with my pciture editor, and it all went back to the way my browser downloaded the file. If you really want to waste time, make your own program to do it. has all the file formats. This

Oh, I got the div x thing and it works now, thanks! :D
-
That's a popular one. How well does it actually compress movies though? Does anyone actually know?
-
I basically know nothing about the software except that it made my movie playable :D
-
i don't know for sure. enough to put most movies onto 2 cds without any (within a reasonable range) problems.
if anyone's interested, the source code for an old mpeg-4 (divx) codec is at projectmayo.com

I'm not sure, but this is just what i heard. It takes each image and basically turns it into a picture. So you'll have millions of pictures instead of a movie or show. It also says that it's all black saving space anytime there's a black or white complete screen.
