Yes, it is.
Ooo! Now that's one for the philosophers! I could be wrong but I don't think it is illegal to have a copy of something you have purchased. As I understand it you are allowed to make a single copy of a CD you legally bought to use as a back-up if anything happens to the original. I'm not sure if that's right or not, but I think that's the arguement that a lot of warez sites use. They send you a CD with a couple of illegal copies of games/apps and the idea is that you own a copy of this software (though you don't) and they are just providing you with a back-up copy.
AFAIK its not illegal to have a backup. At least some of the licensing agreements i've read have stated that you are allowed to 'make a SINGLE copy of this software for backup puposes'. ... Let your buddy "store" your backup copy and you might be in trouble. :p
well, that depends, if you own the actual real peice of software then like lightadown said you can have a legal backup copy, but if you don't own the software then, it's illegal. BUT, they won't bust you for 1 , 2, or three peices of pirated software, don't worry about it. k? and if someone does asks something just tell them the trueth, you honestly didn't know if that was piracy or else why would you have started this thread.
Ok, I think it's obvious that you can make a copy of the stuff you own. That is out of the question. However, any copy of something copyrighted that you don't own is illegal, no matter what you use it for or if you use it at all.
Just wondering how many of you have your copy of winzip registered? and if not how many days have you had it on your computer?
thank you! everyone hates me for making statements ike tht. thank you mr. lost minds
man you are defensive...
I was just saying that most people think they aren't breaking the law but then they have their over 30 day software still being used on their computer.
pirate, i have no grudges against you. The only person i hate here is dayknight (let me at him!).

'Ignorance of the law is no excuse'
As long as you aren't making money off of using the pirated software and aren't selling it-just messing around with it, you're fine. No one gives a damn. The people who give out their serial #'s are the ones who get screwed. But OS's and games are sort of a different story... Operating systems make money off of selling them. Same with games. Both of those are reasonably priced. Don't pirate those, it's just a low blow to programmers. But things like flash and photoshop, which cost hundreds of dollars, are a different story IMO. If you can't afford it and you are fust playing around with it, no one gets hurt. Damn I'm gonna get flamed for this.
"light the torches!!!"
"thats right pile the wood nice and high, yeah just like that!"
"oooo' turpentine! good idea"
