ok i am pretty sure this post i gona be filled

so this post is about goodies. wat i mean by that is u know small things that make ur code and prgram much more efficient and lets u have fun.

for example shutdown ur computer or restart

I can shutdown, restart and logoff my pc using C++.....cant say it has increased the "fun factor" of my programs though :confused:

It may not be fun for you but alot of new programmers are looking for codes such as Shutdown and other.

Can't remember seeing people asking about shutdowns and stuff on this board for a pretty long time.

One thing you might see in people's code are the "magic numbers and variables".
For example:

I have an old pascal program that I wrote in like 5th grade that simulates a hard drive format it makes the nice hard drive sound too :) (I still remember my friends dad having a heart attack when he accidently ran that) ahh fond memories....

Still waiting to see the actual impact .NET has. I could care less about it. MSVC++ 6.0 is good enough for me.

Using pascal, I learn a code that can restart the computer for ever:D :D :D ... because the autoexec.bat:rolleyes: will run my file and my file will run forever... :rolleyes:

Well to do it in Windows XP/NT/2000 is simple. but you've gotta use API and set UserTokens. Take a look at msdn.microsoft.com it's got an example somewhere. Search for ExitWindowsEx API call and see what comes up.

I do believe that Microsoft is trying to take over every language, and along with that... every computer. It's a monopoly and now they are shipping licensed software (practically free) to schools and training students to use microsoft products. It's like a new generation of mindslaves dependant on Microsoft. My school is already filled with slaves itself. There are classes in my school that train people in the art of Microsoft suite products. I feel that if I give in I will surely become part of everybody else. That is why I chose to program for what I do.

the .Net framework is a very good idea , and stable framework for applications... but you have to know whats new and what good to use it with.. here is a good article showing which is better to use for your application Architecture:

Well, they did create C# and they did make Visual C++ b/c Visual C++ is just a program that makes it easier to program with MFC.

Also, they aren't trying to take over every language. They are, however, trying to expand their newer languages to have limitless abilities. I don't consider this to be taking over any language. However (before I get flamed) Microsoft does hate Java. At most developer key notes Ballmer always dissess Java.

And no offense, but tailoring your skills to Microsoft isn't that bad of an idea. I doubt most of you use any *nix (let alone program for/in it). Microsoft is a respected platform for business and its not like they are going away anytime soon.

Bottom line: keep an open mind and never stop learning.

Microsoft doesn't give a **** about programmers or the people who use them. This world runs off of commerce, not religion, not friendship. Do you think that they actually make mistakes in their OS unintentionally? Every time that they make an OS they need something wrong with it so that you buy the next. Now begin to think about .NET for one second. With that you need to be Certified in VC++, some business bull**** course that I forget its name, then be working as a developer for applications for 2 years minimum. Then after all of that you can become certified in their oh so wonderful .NET, then they advertise on TV that you can do so much more with .NET. Don't you realize whats happening? Then they come out with Common Runtime Language scripting. I wouldn't be surprised to see them attempt to get ridd of executions period along with the API system and try to force people to CLR script into an OS instead. It would slow down the industry but think about how much money they would make from certifications alone? Their OS is the most common world wide, and since this world runs off of commerce Microsoft would be forced to stay the same or Programmers forced to take Certifications and go back and learn Microsofts new system of doing things. For instance: Microsoft makes something called Liquid Wave(I believe thats the name) for making webpages then they make IE compatible... then about 1 year later they say "We are discontinueing its support all together" so they probably made at least 100,000 off of that(depending on the popularity) then just toss it out of the window. So what I am trying to say is that Programmers could be screwed over very quickly if all they know is VC++ or VB or C# because in any new product they can change anything that they want.

Its complicated and thats why I think its safe to know VC++ as well as something like Assembly or something that is not too incredibly dependant. Then with Microsofts ideas to make programming easier and easier then who knows what will come up next, they've got some wierd ideas. Maybe I'm just overly exagerating but I think its worth thinking about.

consoles are obsolete, currently that is.
right now no consoles have internet access, although they will in time. Also, regular users cannot program console games, unlike computers. You do not have easy-to-use mouse' and keyboards. Every time a console upgrades the computers will have upgraded more. The small console boxes provide for little compliance. If all of this got upgraded, it probably still wouldnt be as good as a computer. Also, what would it be , really? Has a TV monitor, keyboard, mouse, a stack, vid cards? Just a computer that only runs CDs online. Stick with ocmputers and you wont lose ;)

I, personally, would rather play a game on a console rather than a computer. Ever play Resident Evil for Gamecube? You **** your pants, it's so scary! Imagine it with a giant TV and huge speakers? I haven't seen a 53 inch monitor yet, but I can't wait for one either. Plus consoles like GBA provide great portability with great games. I am more comfortable with controllers than a mouse and a keyboard (at least for most games, not deathmatch). I can't wait for Castlevania to come out on GBA. Plus programming on a console makes you not have to worry about operating systems and compatability with video cards and such.

In windows I believe its: ExitProcess to exit the process then you can use GetExitCodeProcess to get the code and you can use GetCurrentProcess to get the process of your application. So something like this:

ExitProcess(GetExitCodeProcess(GetCurrentProcess() ,0));

I think that will work, I havnt tried it. But those are the API that you want to use. Or you could try ExitThreat with GetExitCodeThread with GetCurrentThread. Give it a shot, then tell me if its a success. I'd test it but Im really busy, I'll test it later tonight if I've got the time. I've gotta help my friend study for math. Good Luck.

Hmm, proper grammar would make a program look very professional, although, I'm sure this is way out of the scope of this threads purpose. Solid coding can also make an application seem more professional.

Unless you're writing drivers, or some other sort of program which alters system files, you have no reason to restart the computer.

A spiffy company name to back the application would also help, something along the lines of Shafted. This thread should be closed as well, it's no different than your first hacking thread.

That quite possibly come out wrong, I clicked send and was editing it on the fly, disregard legal issues for wealth. This is a cool function for Windows. It allows you to set a bunch of hooks on the system to get keyboard or whatever type of input before any program.

It's called SetWindowsHookEx(...);

last time i checked (lol about a month ago on forbes) gates was richest with the king of saudi in 2nd. Then the wal-mart family (wife of the original wal-mart guy and their 2 kids) was in 3, 4 and 5 respectively. So techinically if Sam (i think that was his name) walmart was still alive he would be richest by a long shot.

Also on another note, its kind of scary that gates personally has more money than a king who has an entire country worth of gold, oil and other possessions. Although the kings house is much, much bigger i believe...
