There's a story of a Depression-era Kansas child (named D. Gale) whose whole house was picked up by a freak tornado and dropped in an unspecified place. The child survived, but that's more than can be said for the poor old women the house fell upon. To add insult to injury, the child then proceeded to steal the elderly lady's silver shoes and was last seen making her getaway along a Yellow Brick road...

Tornadoes get my vote for scariest weather event/natural disaster. I'm probably biased because I live close to Tornado Alley. Nevertheless, they look like a great howling demon from hell, and if they hit a town it's basically like it got blown up by a bomb. Not a fan, really.
