Any Computer Science majors with an MBA?

Hi guys,

I was wanting to get my MBA, my compnay will pay 10k a year to go to college.
I talked to a manager, he also was a computer science major and he said he got his MBA in 3 years while working full time and just taking a few courses at a time.

My question is, how do you get an MBA without a background in Business? I would think you would need to have a do a 4 year in some type of business and then do a few more years to get yoru MBA.
I'm graduating this May so I wanted to start asap!

You don't need a 4 year undergrad degree to do an MBA, you can go straight into it from other degrees (like CS). As long as you can put a full bottle of gel in your hair, wear a suit to school, and fake a smile for long periods of time you'll be fine in an MBA program.

You would think that, but apparently an MBA requires very little relevant knowledge. IMO, this speaks for the usefulness of a business degree (outside of "I have an MBA, hire me").

I am a BCom student, I could perhaps help.

You will be required to pass a business test called the GMAT which requires a few month of studying. There are books to prepare for the GMAT.

@psychopath: You seem to know little about business and business degrees. I will not be a douche with it but I'll just let you know that an MBA is a specific degree in business studies which is more aimed toward problem-solving, teamwork and project management for future managers. I highly doubt that your knowledge of business (finance, accounting, human resources and so on) is up to par with any of the students in a BCom, however.

And you'd be right. I'm speaking purely on my own observation (things I've read, things people have told me), with essentially no idea exactly what an MBA is/does. :)

Personally I'd like to go back and get a CE and an MBA and pursue my PhD.

Yah I've found I like to work with people a lot more than sitting and coding for hours on end. Also I find myself always stressed out when I'm coding if I can't figure it out. Its like my brain never stops working, so I always take my work home with me rather than leaving it at work. Which is good for the company but not good for me.

I enjoy coding, I started at a young age but I guess once I actually went into the real world and coded for 8+ hours a day it burnt me out

After coding for 10 hours at work I cant wait to get home so I can sit down, relax and write some code :)

Yah i'm the opposite, after a day of work I don't even want to play games on the computer which sucks because I love gaming on the PC.
But when I was interning with IBM, I was always ahead of scheudel because I would go home and relax for a few hours then start coding again, because I couldn't get the problem out of my head until I solved it. It just doesn't seem like a healthy way of life, I think I need seperation from work but as a programmer its hard to do for me.
