The question also applies to students/newbies who are learning to program.
For me, 1.5 months, using C. :)
EDIT: "It's been so long, I can't remember" = more than 25 years.

Probably 10-15 years here, from what I can remember.
5 years if you count HTML/Javascript/PHP. 4 years if you count VB. 3 years for C/C++/Java.
IMO you can't count writing `echo "myname is bob"` programming. If you could then I'd be able to count my use of DOS as programming...
I picked 20-25 years - I think I may have started more than 25 years ago, if we should be really picky, but I've worked as some sort of computer professional for the last 20+ years.

10-15, although the first half of that was just at home or school.
4 Year for me.
Then I guess you cant count printf("my name is bob"); as programming either. Its possible to do some pretty sophisticated stuff with Javascript and PHP.Quote:

If one goes back to when I first programmed, that would be AppleBASIC in senior year of high school, which would be 1984.
Since 1979 on a Commodore Vic-20. Yes, I got one before they hit the market, it was good to live in Peoria :)
So I guess I am the only little fish in this pond. :)
I'll post this poll again in a few years, when I've got more street cred. ;)
Hmm, had to think about it. The answer is 24 years, and that's counting when I started programming in C64 BASIC.
Lest you get the impression that I only wrote simple Hello World programs, I'll point out that the first time I was PAID for code that I wrote was in 1988, when I was 8 years old. So if you want to count from then, it's 21 years.
I gto paif $50 at age 10 to modify a program that displayed a christmas tree drawing to also print it out on a color printer. The manager of the local Radio Shcak paid me, I think mostly so he could use it as a demo of how easy it was to learn to program the TRS-80.
Wrote my first line of code in 1982: BASIC on a 10 mghrtrz IBM PC. It booted from a 5 1/4" diskette. After that, it was REXX in '86. Then, I went straight to assembler in '88.
$50 & $100 was worth more then than now.
The question is: what mischief can a 10 & 8 year old get to with that sort of money? ;)
Holy ........! o.o I didn't even have a PC at that age! Only consoles :P And using computers back in the 80's must've been horrible o.o the computers were slow! You couldn't even play Crysis back then! o.o
I didn't even have an etch a sketch when I was 8, let alone a computer! :(
7 Years.
Almost 3 professionally and the rest as "hobby".
Almost 3 years.
Learn ASM, Then C, Then Java, Then C++
3 years if you include HTML. Otherwise, since the beginning of last semester. :P
Good to see another newbie. :)
We're a rare breed here.
11 months.
i started C++ learning on my own just in the past summer!
before that i'd read the stephan pratas C prim > ( the first edition !! 2 years ago , just before pointers... after a while , i saw that i cant just go pick up everything! and master them , better stick to one thing and master it. )
and 3 years a go i learned some basics about pascal!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
6 years ago, i started to learn HTML and basic! , but 6 months after that, i forgot about them,
================================================== =
so im a newbie ! in programming .
Well, I started C++ more than a year ago, but lost interest 'cause I just couldn't figure stuff out (I had only learn the very basics back then, but I didn't know xP) then half a year later, I got interested in programming again, and decided to take a differen't approach, and went for Visual Basic, and then when I'd learn some stuff about general programming, and had gotten more mature, got back to C++ (This exactly one year later than I started C++ for the first time, it was in start of winter or end of autumn... And now I'm making a game, so proud ^^
Ping Pong, and it's kinda finished xD Just don't know where to post it on here o.o since no peeps post projects on the Projects and Job Recruitment, and I havn't found any other good forum, so maybe I should just post in game forum, but it's for questions... Meh, the mods can move if I post it in the wrong place
