My rant on preservatives

I just went to my kitchen to make dinner. I took the alfredo sauce out of the fridge, and immediately upon opening the bottle, I noticed that it had loong since expired. I looked on the side of the bottle, and saw a big label that says, "NO PRESERVATIVES!" Well now that it needs preserving, that's really convenient for me!

Now I wanna know who's to blame for this. Was it the FDA? Jessie Jackson? Somebody owes me a new bottle of alfredo sauce.

On second thoughts - I'll just use the sauce anyway. Somebody out there owes me some Pepto Bismol then. If they had put preservatives in my sauce, I might actually have made it through the night without severe pain...

Greenpeace and/or the FDA. Terrible shame, you should write a letter demanding sauce :)

Preservatives exist for a reason, use them people! :p. It's paramount to writing huge software in a self-designed language, and then removing all documentation, support or history of that language. And what happens to the huge software you sold? Too bad, it went off.

I think you'd both have to have somewhat of a perverted mind because some variation of preservative is the word for comdom on almost all European languages.

Honestly, *bottled* alfredo sauce? That's the real crime being committed here! Everyone knows that alfredo sauce can only be made with fresh cream...:D

Just as an update, for all those that are interested in the inner-workings of my gastrointestinal tract, I feel fine! The sauce didn't affect me at all!

But then my preservation issue become worse! Normally I wouldn't be able to let it sit in the refrigerator long enough to expire, but I bought a big bottle of Alfredo Mushroom, and I've been so in love with that that I forgot I had an already-open bottle of regular Alfredo.

And just my $.02, but I have to agree that fresh made is the way to go. But then I love to cook, and not everyone else does.

Ditto and I agree 100%. Since I have been trying to eat healthier I notice I just end up cooking for anyone and everyone who wants something (I will eat vicariously through them..)

It's the same way I feel about food irradiation. But tin foileys immediately demand that such food bear scary radiation symbols. That way even more ignorant people will become panic stricken for no reason.

I guess it's what people feared when micro wave ovens first came out. They hear "waves" and they think they're going to glow in the dark. All three arms. Twits. Give them a few scientific terms to bandy about and they'll get misused and misunderstood. Maybe someone should tell them the common household light bulb emits radiation. What??? AHHHHHHHgggr!! Now I need a tin foil full body suit.

According to some scientific research I recently conducted (I was watching "Attack of the 50 foot Spider") the irradiation process will actually make a typical apple 250ft around (sadly, yes I did do the math). World hunger will be a thing of the past!

There is, in fact, good cause to be alarmed about these technologies. Irradiation can destroy DNA, proteins, enzymes and other important biological substances in food, among other things. Microwaves (never use one myself) can do that too (not to mention making food taste horrible in the process). Light bulbs don't typically use those frequencies or intensities, so you can probably leave the suit in the closet for now.

The bottom line is this: wholesome, natural food rewards us with good health, while pesticide soaked, irradiated, overprocessed food punishes our bodies with all sorts of ailments. Of course, this becomes immediately obvious to the person that simply makes an effort to listen to their body (sounds corny, but it's true) and follow good common sense when choosing what to eat.

I'm ranting, aren't I? :D

I am not quite sure that I will avoid using the microwave. Although I typically don't use it too much since there is no substitute for actual cooking. I take that back, the best substitute for cooking is someone else cooking for you. I can't argue too terribly with you since I do try not to consume too much crap. I am not quite one to strictly shop at an organic foods store either. The sad truth of it all is that we will die from some of the things that we eat and so few really put all that much thought into it prior to consuming what is in front of them.
