My two year old Thinkpad T43p (XP Home) started having monitor problems. After five to ten minutes following a reboot, the screen goes black, or nearly black. I can see the ghost image of the open windows and desktop barely, and I can interact with them, so I know the system is up.
After a reboot, everything is OK for five to ten minutes, when it happens again. If it was hardware, would it always be "fixed" by a reboot?
Maybe it's power management turning off the backlight? Could be some sort of virus...
But it does sound like the backlight is being turned off.
I'm running a full system scan now. If that turns up nothing, I'll restart and look at the power mgmt.Quote:

Hmmm...I was able to toggle the display back on with Fn->F3. Looked at the power mgmt settings and nothing appears to have changed.
EDIT 2:
After some googling, found that it's likely the LCD inverter. I opened my machine to get the model # and ordered a new one. Sounds like a common problem.
