I tried to use the linux DVD to install a copy of fedora onto my hd (not the main partition, the "/dev/sda7", "G:\" partition) but it said there was an error installing grub. Then a bug window came up, crashing the installation. What should I do?

while this post is still alive, let me ask one more thing. How is it possible to install linux on dos partition, dosn't it require a non-dos partition to install.
Between @OP: If you wanted to install linux on top windows, why dont use some emulators and such as cygwin?

This seems simply a problem with grub no being able to install itself for some reason. You may want to try and fix your MBR before trying the install.
There's a few methods, I reckon. http://www.techzonez.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3975 is as probably as good as any other.
Okay, it was just a setting I had during the installation, grub went fine now, however, there is a new error "cannot mount /dev/sda7 as /". And yet, I have nothing pre-mounted.
Please help. :D All the error says is that is couldn't mount /dev/sda7 (my 4th partition) as the root, even when I unmount the current root media device (/dev/sr0).
