2004 Mazda RX-8... it's sitting in my mom's garage uninsured because I'm in too urban of an area to have a car, right now.
lol, nice car. insurance is a killer, i pay £1600 a year for third party fire and theft. and thats for a 1.0 litre engine! cause ive already had a claim with the Rav-4. also im 18 which means im a liability according to insurers.Quote:

How did you manage to do that?
My first car is an MG ZR 1.4l, I pay ~£500 third party insurance on that.
But then I am 22...

Don't you hate that liability? I'm 16 and I don't have a car yet for that reason. Just because some past retards crashed and killed themselves we all have to suffer. Dumb kids, doing dumb things can ruin a lot. I'm actually glad those drunk idiots died, so they don't reproduce and make more messed up kids. This is prevalent to many things. Including fireworks being banned because some idiot blew his hand off with a M-80. Or how video games being banned because some idiots shot up their school and the ignorant media blames it the games! I hate society and the government...Quote:

Eh, 1.9 litre Saturn coupe? ;)
Your Saturn is puny - mine is a 3.0L monster!
(an engine that big in a plastic car gives it some nice pickup :) )
No license or car of my own yet. But i'm getting my drivers permit tomorrow (if I pass), so i'll be driving my parents '98 Toyota Corolla. Woo!
i spent 6 months learning to drive, did 10 lessons costing £22 each. and then £50 for my provisional, then £35 for my 3 tests (failed twice), and then i have to pay stupid amounts for insurance, and 91p a litre for petrol! shocking.
govtcheez and Prelude:
How do you like your Saturns? We may have to buy my wife a new car soon. She's been eyeing a few cars, one of which is a Saturn something-or-other.
If it helps, I'm not a huge fan of their vehicles. I almost lost my sister because they'll scrunch up like an accordion if you crash them.
... Why do I always have some horrible viewpoint to share on awesome topics?
I don't know...I hate it when that happens to me...Glad that your sister survived, though :D
>i bet some of you guys in america have 6 litre beasts or sommin similar...lol
well... 99 Chevy Silverado 5.3 litre V8 (slightly modified) Its not quite 6 litres but close enough for what I need :p
Lemme guess... the Saturn Sky.Quote:

Meh, it's a car. I do like that you can get a semi-luxury Saturn without a piddly 4 banger now, but I'm sure Prelude's car gets way better mileage than mine as a result. This is my second Saturn, and I don't plan on buying another one.
I bought a V6 GM Alero, which while pretty nice, has needed its fair share of repairs. Moral of the story: when you have 4 grand, don't buy the 3 grand car, buy the 2 grand car, and be prepared to use the rest eventually.
Still, I do love the car, even if it has played a significant part in holding back my computer upgrades.
BMW E36 318is With full Engine and body Motorsport kit
I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT4, 2.4L HO turbo-charged engine (0 to 60 in 5.2 to 5.4), 5 speed manual, 4 wheel brembo disc brakes (60 to 0 in <120ft), and more stuff than I care to list.
But I'm paying too much for it, it's gas tank is far too small (12.5 gallons), it doesn't hook up well through top 1st to mid 2nd gear, the tranny takes its time getting into gear, and it's a 4 door car which is not my preference.
BTW, my father has an Alero and has had over $5000 in repairs done.
- 2 Wheel bearings (both on the RH side), 2 failures in 2 months
- Power window (driver side) mechanism broke
- Intake manifold (as is the case with all current GM's using the plastic intake manifold)
- Theft-proof ignition system failed and car would not start (car thought it was being stolen)
Lemme see, my first car was a Ford V8 Truck. . . now Dad and I use it to haul wood.
My second car I stole fair and square from my mom -- Chevy Cavalier '93 (used 8K miles). . .
My current car I ordered from the factory -- Chevy Cavalier 2003 (had 8 miles).
I bought my wife a Jeep wrangler. . . gas guzzler there. . . a wopping 18 MPG. . .
My first Cavalier was a good-lil car 300,000 miles it made. . . I couldn't part with it. . . I haven't cranked the sucker in 2 years. . .
Guess there won't be a Cavalier at my house again, bummer (Chevy says 2005 was last Cavalier).
hmm... being English im gonna have to say, what the hells a Saturn and an Alero? by Cavalier im sure you dont mean a Vauxhall Cavalier. lol
My car is: the bus. :D :D :D
NB: Wish that I can have my own car. But I've got to learn how to ride it first. ;)
I've got a Yugo, but i can't drive it yet. 'Cause i'm 17.
Can't you have a limited driver license?
I bought a brand new MazdaSpeed6 a couple of weeks ago. 2.3L, turbo, AWD, 6 speed - and it is pretty sweet. Also have a tweaked out 91 TSi AWD talon which hasn't been driven in probably a year.
>>My insurance is about $1500 a year (25 year old male here)
that's a lot of money brother. what insurance company? I pay $1200 with state farm. 23 y.o.
>>I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT4,
those are pretty cool. Light and fast. I raced one the other night and beat it by more than a car length though ;)
Friend pays ~ €2k a year for a 98 Megane. Ireland is expensive
I don't drive. I don't even have a car driver's license.
No kidding. I'm a bike person.
I think that Europe tends to be more like that than the US.
I'm saving up for a 72 Corvette Stingray right now. Something I can rebuild. That is probably my "Dream Car" although at the rate I am going now I will be retired before I can afford to get what I want and do what I want to it :D
98 Chevy S-10 pickup. But I really want a Jeep Wrangler. With a soft top. I'm just afraid that I'll be disappointed. Maybe it won't be as much fun as I think it will be.
75 miles is a bit far for a bike commute to work each day. . . I think I'll keep my car.Quote:

My S-10 is also my first new car. It has been great; virtually no problems. Except the seats. Both the handles to recline the seats are plastic and broke off fairly early on. I never bothered to replace them.
Yeah, the river side handle on mine broke, but other than that I hade zero problems with it for the first eight years, then ALL the wear items started to go all at once....Quote:

Mazda 323, waiting for lising to end... Going to ask for something like Mazda 3 (happy with Mazda - why to switch?)

My car is as close as what you'd get to a "luxury" Saturn; Prelude's is more faithful to their original ideas.
I drive a 85' Ford Telstar. the winscreen wipers dun work on it -_-

whats the difference between a base SRT4 and a stage 3?
also, my car 0-60: 5.25s, 1/4 mile: 13.84
it's a damn fast car and not many people know about it. BTW there are only 5000 of them made for the States each year.
Stage 3 refers to a certain level of aftermarket performance upgrades to the engine, among other things. What he's saying is his Neon isn't stock and being Stage 3, it's really far from it. If I had to guess, assuming equal driving abilities, I'd say his upgraded Neon should outrace your Mazdaspeed6. However, no one is denying that the Mazdaspeed6 is a good car, in fact it's probably the best stock car named in this thread.Quote:

As far as I know the neon I raced was bone stock, except for three gauges on the drivers side front window panel.
Well, there is a specific and well known Stage 3 SRT4. I don't know the details of it, but it's pretty good... you could google it, I'm sure. As for "Stage 3" itself... I don't know the exact specifications, it's just better than Stage 1 and 2... I'm sure there is a specific requirement to be considered Stage 3. Again, google is your friend.
Dodge used to have site that explained the stages, however, the Dodge Caliber has taken the place of the Neon so I'm not sure you will find any info on that at their site.
Just google Dodge Neon SRT4 stage 3 and you will get hits galore. It will nearly outperform a Porsche turbo, eats the Subaru Impreza STI AWD for breakfast, and I know firsthand at our local strip it literally destroyed a souped up Trans Am Firebird (new body style, V8, WS6 with aftermarket upgrades).
Fortunately for most racers very few Neon's have been modded to stage 3 which is probably due to the 4k price tag and the fact that normal gas just won't cut it at stage 3. The estimated HP at stage 3 is around 355 with 20+ PSI boost and I'm not sure about the actual torque output. 0 to 60 as I said is in the Porsche range and will also beat stock Viper 0 to 60. The stock, stage 0, Neon beats a stock Viper to 30, but not to 60. Viper gets it in about 4.2 to 4.4 and a Neon gets to 60 in about 5.2 to 5.4. Still quite impressive numbers for a small 4 door compact car. I can vouch firsthand that you do NOT want to hit the max boost in a turn or if you have anything slick on the road, be it rain, snow, or just plain grease and oil. Once you hit the max boost it'a helluva ride all the way to 135 and for stage 3, it tops at 156. The stock Neon will do 145, but it's limited to 135 AFAIK.
The Neon gets its strength from it's power to weight ratio. The thing is so light and so powerful that it is ideal for racing (drag racing that is). However the Neon is NOT an easy car to race in. It is extremely difficult to correctly launch this car since the turbo boost swells to near 15 PSI at 2500 RPM and doesn't let off all the way to red line at 6250. The Neon's stock 5.5 tires are simply not wide enough to get enough rubber on the road and thus they break loose horribly in first through mid second and often at the bottom of third. If you powershift this car you are in for one hell of a ride. My car tends to wheel hop at max boost in 1st and 2nd and skips a bit in 3rd. Because of this I would say I have never correctly launched this car. The boost comes on extremely fast and the shift points are very hard to hit because it flashes so quick. 3rd gear is a pain in the arse and if you aren't careful you will hit 1st instead. The shifts are notchy just like my 90 Talon TSI AWD but they are far more definite and hard than the Talon. Talon had very mushy shifts and the Neon does not suffer from this at all.
Even though it's an odd platform, the Neon in the hands of the right driver is a definite contender and not to be taken lightly.
I believe the engine in the Neon is the same one in the PT Cruiser Turbo and I also think the Mitsu engine they put in it is the same engine they stuck in the '03 and '04 Mitsubishi Eclipse 4 cylinders (every model but the GT). But they turbo charged it and done a lot of modifications to the air intake system and exhaust system as well as ECM and its software.
There are tons of aftermarket upgrades for the car but I'm probably not going to do anything to it. I highly recommend either picking one up (only 3000 2005's were made), or at least driving one.
I'm not sure why the driver would have a pillar gauge setup b/c the Neon has good stock gauges to begin with. Some 'wannabe's' out there dress the car all up to look fast but rarely do anything to the actual performance. I'm not a big fan of driver side pillar gauges and all that crap. It's all about performance.
Yes, I agree... I'm all up for interior and exterior stylings, but as far as I come, performance takes a higher priority. Buy the better Engine/Suspension/Transmission/Turbo Kit, then buy your Body Kits and spoilers and Carbon Fiber whatever...Quote:
