Beginner seeking help to start C/C++ for "Receiver Development"

Hi,

I am currently doing my Masters in Global Navigation Satellite Systems and hoping to pursue my PhD in the same field. I have good programming skills in MATLAB but I think I should learn something like C or C++

Please let me know from where should I start and how to proceed this self learning along with my studies.

There is so much that can be improved on and enhanced, if only I had the energy and the time.

Accelerating a SDR receiver with a GPU comes to mind, adding RTK support.
