    difficulties w/connection

hey fellas, i'm having some wierd problems.

1st off... im on xp home using a linksys wrt54g router and i've got sbc yahoo dsl.

basically what happens is, at random times throughout the day i'll lose my connection for a matter of 30sec - 1min. sometimes 10 min. apart, sometimes hours apart but it's the same behavior none the less. i've tried tons of stuff ... but cant get the thing to stay on continuously...??? it's causing my to lose tons of xbox live matches so i come to you for help???

i've got all the "keep alive" connection things on and UPnP off, i've got a firewall in the router but it's only set to filter anonymous internet requests...but i've played with all these settings and no combo seems to work? is it too easy of an explaination to say sbc sux....or am i just a newber when it comes to this networking stuff???

i may have disables some of my services in the control panel to give me this wierd prob, but as im looking through i dont see any that jump out at me.

ANY questions for me, feel free to ask i'll give you as much info as ya want.

    thanks!

    Update:

just thought i'd let you guys know...

i was talking to someone and his theory was i had some spyware that corrupted my winsock files. so he told me to get this thing called the winsock fix program. i got the program, ran it, been on for about an hour continuously and everything seems to be running ok, no problems as of yet.

edit: wouldnt you know, about 10 minutes after i posted this, it started happening again.....damn!

could it be cause there's like 12 svchost.exe's running?

I had the same problem. For me it was the hardwre, my ethernet card was lose and it will drop connection. Try to put your ethernet card in different socket.

i'll give that a try...if that doesnt work i think i'll try to see if i can get my xbox to connect and stay connected by going directly through the modem to the ISP. and if it works then i'll know it's the router effin' it up.

Well, if there's spyware then you'll have to get rid of it before fixing your Winsock files will do anything. Try Ad-Aware, by Lavasoft (get it off download.com), it seems to work well. Other ones to try are Spybot Search & Destroy and Webroot SpySweeper. Also try running antivirus
