What kind of program/compiler (IE - Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0) do you guys use in Linux?

KDevelop. It looks and feels similiar to MVC. More 'advanced' though in my opinion, with a lot more options.

I program with the QT library, which in fact is available for Windows as well. All this .NET stuff will come to Linux as well, which is very positive for the future. A C# compiler is in development right now by Miguel de lcaza - one of the creators of Gnome.
